Pewter- 1999 Camaro
Paint Question Need Help
I have a pewter 99 Camaro and just got my new SS hood painted and it is darker than the rest of the car and they told me to wait abot 3 or 4 weeks and wax it and it will bring the pigment out of it and it will match the rest of my car. Is this true or is he just blowin smoke up my ass?

There full of it. Your hood should have been painted with clear coat, 2 stage paint. Which means waxing it will never affect the pigment which is in the base, or color coat. What it comes down to is they were too lazy to mix and spray the hood until they matched it. There may have been more then one variance of the mix charts for your color. But a good reputable shop should make it right and match it. I always did when I worked for a body shop. I also took the time to get it right the first time.

Pewter isnt the best collor to panel paint, they should have blended the fenders as a precaution. I wouldnt be surprised if they tried to charge you to blend the fenders when you take it back. If it makes you feel any better most of the SS hoods didnt match brand new from SLP. A polishing can lighten a collor a tad from the swirl marks ect. anytime you scratch clear coat it no matter the collor it will leave a white mark. But it will be sutch a tiny amount you will probably not see any difference.

Yea...my color Z is "Light Pewter Metallic"... I'd get the whole car redone in black if I ever have to get one part repainted.
