Blue 1997 Trans Am(Sold)- Pewter 2001 Trans Am Vert
Paint job...
Hey I spotted this car and at first I thought it looked hideous! But its really grown on me, maybe its the spoiler, ground effects or the hood vents or the fact that its lowered that makes the car look so good to me, but maybe its the paint job. I'm trying to figure out if it IS the paint job that I like, I try to imagine what my car would look like with that paint job and I think it would look sweet. Tell me what you think guys!
If you do like this setup let me know if you think that look would be retro in about 5-10 years?

ya I think so too... I'm basically considering if thats the kind of paint job I would like long term... however, I was really intending on putting Torque Thrust II's on my car... so I don't know if that paint job and TT's would clash?...any opinions guys?

looks alright... does anyone on this site have any experience with these hoods and raised spoilers... their pictures aren't the greatest, kind of a shabby representation. I think those spoilers look boxed on the back and probably acts like a bird bath. As for the hood I would love to see how its setup underneith any pictures kicking around?

A lot of people have had *bad* luck with the quality & fitment of those hoods. Definitely a mean looking hood though.
I bought one 6 or 7 years back, but I've seen others complain also. However, more recently, I've seen people saying it has been redesigned & is much better. *shrug*
Anyway, here's a link to a pic of the underside of my old one:

That hood looks pissed. I actually like 1 color paint jobs but that looks great IMO with the red and black.

You have the original/first design like myself, you can lo longer get the first design any longer. The second design is far structurally stronger and has a much taller more agressive appearance simmilar to the WS6 Hood with the four heat extractor ports. The first design is very close to the Firehawk hood with the addition of the four heat extractors. It is extremely light weight in construction "comparable to some pin on race only hoods".
I will be ordering a new design hood for my Mecham this week. I painted one of the new versions for a friend, as expected it had some clean up but was no different than other glass hoods I have worked with.

Mecham has had issues with their hoods before just to forwarn you. They have fitment issues and take a lot of prep work and time

Like I stated in my last reply, I have first hand experience with the new design and had no more issues with fit/finish than most other glass hoods I have worked with.
The first design was extremely light weight and had issues in the structural dept. You have to keep in mind the Mecham hoods were just as much for function as appearance. The only down fall of the second design that I could see is that its near twice the weight of the first/original like the one that came original on my car.
I will also be ordering the revised hood for my personal car this week, lets see if I have the same experience twice.
Here is a pic of my car with the original/first design hood..

True, I remember the second revision having no issues except for the weight deal and prep work

Thanks guys!
I ordered the hood today, it should be shipped out tomorrow. I will let you know how the fit/finish is.
I have had a few people ask if I would sell my old hood. I cant sell the old one since its original to the car and they no longer make them. Its going to become wall art in my shop... lol
