    Frc Installation

Anyone Know Exactly How To Install These? Any Tips Or Tricks? The Instructions That Came With Them Didnt Help To Much. I Am Starting To Feel I Paid All That $ For Nothing. Just For Me To Tear Up The Paint Job. That Is How It Went So Far. Thanks For Any Help..

What exactly are you having trouble with Kebie, one side or the other? Here is a write up I did a while back.

    A few pointers:

Before you install the fuel rail covers(FRC's) I would recommend covering the backside of them with heat shielding tape. I applied the heat tape to the back of mine for what its worth and I have had them 3 years now I believe.

When you go to install the covers, you obviously want the motor nice and cool.

If you have a STB, it must be removed to install the FRC's. The oil cap & dipstick have to be removed for the passenger side as well. On the driver side, you have to remove all the heat tape on the 2 fuel lines. Do this before you attempt to install the driver's side, or you will chip and scuff up the paint on it. Its not necessary, but it would make the install easier if you just disconnect the fuel lines all together and reconnect them after the FRC has been installed. Thats about all the pointers I can think of. When you are finished it should look something like this:

    Click for full size

I don't deserve all the credit for the pointers & write up, I borrowed some of the info from Parbreak who does all the FRC work for Afterthoughts.

so nothing needs to be undone (other than fuel lines) for the install? nothing bent?

Correct, I had to remove the heat tape from the 2 fuel lines. You really have to separate them for the drivers side one to fit.

Can you describe what is giving you problems?

it is like it is almost lining up and then it stops. what lines are supposed to go through the opening on them? seems like alot of stuff, wires, wire clips, and other stuff is keeping it from setting down.

also trying to wedge it back far enough up under the cowl. that is what is causing me to tear down into the paint.

Some people apply some blue painters tape or simply cover with plastic wrap to try to prevent scratching them during installation.
Wathc out for the sharp retainer pins under the cowl. They'll tear up your hands.
Which side is givin' ya trouble? Driver's side or passenger side?
Did you remove/move the wire bundles from both fuel line tubes & let them rest down lower?
Did you remove the throttle cable bracket from the intake manifold on the rear/driver's side?
Can you physically move the AIR tubing in the back of the engine under the cowl to allow more clearance?
Don't worry about the clips on the driver's side matching up with the coils. They won't, if ya line up the arches on the intake manifold. Once the c-clips are attached they'll stay put.
Also make sure the AIR tubing off of the exhaust manifolds are out far enough away from the engine. Again, simply bend them out carefully if necessary to gain more clearance.
Email me some details if ya need more help.
Ya should've called me or emailed to me. I'm always willing to help, ...

both sides are trouble. the trans fluid dipstick, how does that go? throttle cable bracket? how do these things stay put? do they just lay there? what c clips are you talking about? what air tubes?

The throttle cable bracket is the one on the rear of the intake manifold on the driver's side, under the cowl area. It sticks up too high & won't allow the cover to snap on the fuel rail tubing.
If you remove the 10mm nut, the bracket will come right off. The cable will simply rest on top of the intake manifold.
(NOT THE THROTTLE CABLE BRACKET ON THE THROTTLE BODY.)
The rear of the passenger side cover has a relief for the A4 dipstick. The dipstick will move if necessary to get it to line-up.
The c-clips are molded on to the underside of the frc's. They snap on to the steel fuel line tubing.
The AIR tubes are the rubber tubing in the back of the engine running from one side to the other side, & the metal tubes coming up off of the exhaust manifolds.
    I'll email some photos, ...

(Not 100% sure which dipstick ya mean.)
There is a hole for the oil dipstick. You can again, easily bend the diptick to the proper location so that it comes out thru the hole in the cover.
The auto trans dipstick coms out from under the top/rear of the passenger side cover.
Did ya check the email with the photos?

The covers are made in such a fashion that it's hard to tell the factory cuts for the Corvette, & the changes made for the F-body. The rear/top section of the passenger cover has the last arch cut-off for clearance for the auto-trans dipstick.
