    Filler Panel needs help

So my car is an NHRA S.E. and for you who dont know...came with a special badge on the rear filler panel.
Well a previous owner debadged it and went to a classic "firebird" paint badge.
Now the panel looks bad up close as it looks like the adhesive or something is still on there... my guess is painted over when the new badging was put on.

My question is I want to return it to the original NHRA badging so i assume i would go about it by sanding the filler panel and such.
Can anyone go through a step by step on what to do. I dont have much of any experiance with sanding/painting or whatever I would have to do to make it look good so i can reattach the NHRA badges.

    Thanks

You know, I was cleaning my wheel wells today and I saw the exact same shit on the inside panels where the paint is. It was hard and doesn't rub off at all. Definitely wasn't adhesive in my situation. It looked almost like road rash and seemed to be through the paint to the body.

Sorry I can't help but your pic reminded me of that. Maybe I can clean it up in the same manner as you.

Would i be able to get away with just taping things up and sanding/polishing the top "firebird" part??

I would rather do that than take things all apart and to it that way, as that is the only part of it i want to change right now.

I too replaced the rear badges on my NHRA. What is left there is the adhesive from the emblem. I had the same stuff on mine. Let me tell you that to make that smooth again it required a lot of sanding. I would redo the whole panel and place the new emblems. I was very happy after I put the new decals on. If you're interested in just replacing the panel with a freshly sanded/polished filler panel PM me.
