DIY Anodized Parts!!!!
Picked up a set of new hood struts.. the camaro ones(that are longer apparently) and set off to getting them painted. Did some shopping around and found this..
Sanded the struts down like I am going to polish them and then painted it with the red can.. It seriously looks like it was anodized, but it has to be a bright coat underneath. I think they would have turned out better if I had painted them with a white basecoat but I will play with that later or someone else can
I have an extra set of maf housings and im going to throw them in the sand blaster and shoot them with some white high temp high gloss engine paint first and see what happens. Pics will come up later

Sounds cool. Never really gave that much thought. Was always under the impression that you had to actually purchase anodized parts to get the look.
I'll tinker around too and see what I can do with it.
Thanks for the tip.

What about silver as a base? It might make it look a little brighter.

Duplicolor makes a similar product called "Metalcast." With the Duplicolor brand, they have a basecoat which looks like a metallic silver for painting things that are not shiny already. These paints are made for painting over very shiny surfaces like chrome, silver, stainless, aluminum, etc, to achieve that anodized look.

Just an FYI. There are powders out there that look exactly like ano and are much cheaper to coat with than ano as well though Im sure they are not as cheap as spray bomb.
With powder you would get the added chem resistance and toughness though.

I was just going for a little FYI. And for those of you who are unemployed, I pray you wont be for long.
Thanks for the praise on the parts though, we really enjoy hearing what everyone thinks about our stuff.

Can anodized aluminum fuel rails be sandblasted (or however the anodizing can be removed) and powder coated? or re-anodized?

Wait now! Truth be known here, Ano is listed as a base coat for powdercoating. It would neet to be cleaned well and scratched up with scotch brite or similar and can be shot as is. Ano does NOT have to be stripped before coating.
