    That darn shifter

For anyone who has an A4 tranny you know what I'm talking about. The plastic thing around the gear shift rattles and drives me up the wall! I get around 2000 RPMs and bbbbbzzzzzzzzzz! Does anyone know how to install a leather boot on our cars? Any pics would help.

Heck yeah I know what you mean. Hadn't considered the possibility of replacing that. Interesting idea...

Certainly not perfect I think a boot out of an a4 vette would work much better

Yeah I heard of someone on here or LS1tech doing it. Right now I have a piece of folded paper shoved in there to it doesn't rattle as bad.

How hard was it to get the console out and did you have to cut the shifter down any?

Ooh I like that. I never liked the standard t-bar shifter, that knob shifter with the leather boot looks much better.

It isn't hard at all just a couple of screws, I don't think cutting the shifter down is an option since the button mechanism on the top runs down the center of the shifter.
c-clip in front of the shifter, 2 screws in the center console and 2 bolts in the very front.

You'll do all that work only to find out it's the button itself not the knob..

    Yes.
    Shifter is exactly the same.
Yes, the knobs can be swapped also.
Pull the clip, lift the handle, replace in reverse, ...

If the Firebird Tshifter fits the Camaro, then the Camaro one would fit the Firebird as well

To add: just about any of the GM auto console knobs will work on your stem.. There a few that wont too but they are'nt common enough to worry about.. You could take the "T" handle out of a 1982 cavalier wagon and install it on a 2002 f-bod.. lol Hell the cloth seats in 4th gen Camaro's could pass for 82 Cavalier too.

The seats in the 80's firebirds are exactly the same as the ones in the last generation, it's amazing w/ how thrifty these guys are that they ever went under in the first place

Well I could go into the "why" but this is'nt the place. But a couple of years before the force out GM's CEO was among the best in the nation. A couple years later they throw him to the wolves, and stuck a liberal in his place.. Hmmm
