My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
ts|s Detailing: Z28 Rescue Mission
1995 Z28 with 50k miles on it. The current owner had it "polished" by a guy down the street about 4 months ago (just after winter). He said he picked the car up when it was cloudy and really couldn't tell that it was done right or wrong...until he pulled it out in spring and saw the absurd amount of swirls in the paint. The 'detailer' was kind enuough to leave compound in every crevace/emblem/etc. The client had me pick the car up-which was actually to his benefit, because the amount of work was double what I originally figured it would require, and it being @ my house, allowed me to properly restore this black beast to glistening beauty.
Process:
Pressure washed then clay barred with medium and heavy grade clays. Two-step polishing via Flex 3401 using Foam Wool followed by Tangerine pads and Meguires 105/205 compounds. Topped everything with Poorboys Black Hole Glaze and Blackfire Midnight Sun paste wax for a dripping wet finish. Rims were hand polished with P21S polishing soap then with a cordless drill, polishing cone and Optimum Metal Polish.
Before/After
This area ended up getting sanded b/c of those deeper defects. There were a few areas like this, where I didn't know scratches were lurking b/c of the heavy swirling.

Great job tss. What do you do to get swirls out from those unbuffable areas around the headlights or hood vents?

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
thanks everyone-it was a major job, almost 20 hours I think.
used a Flex 3401 polisher with purple foam wool pad and Meguires 105 compound followed by a Hydrotech tangerine pad with Megs 205 polish. Very lethal combo on any GM car.
3" Griots random orbital with Meguires MFDA pads/compounds for the tight spaces (infront/under the tail, all the lights, the front bumper, the emblems).

Awesome work, as always!!
I actually just detailed my car this past week using my DA and M105 & M205. I was using the Meguire's Yellow "polishing" foam pad, which probably wasn't aggressive enough for the paint defects I was trying to remove, so I couldn't get out all of the marks that I wanted to. Still came out good though, those compounds are great stuff.
I used Meguires Ultimate Liquid wax to as the last step, and I must say I am very impressed with the shine, richness, and smoothness.1998 Trans Am WS6 SGM
