For the glass, NOT THE PAINT, rubbing alcohol works great.

Also, a good sealer/wax as preventive maintenance.

Tar and bug remover worked for maple sap on mine. If you do use it I recommend a wash and wax immediately after you get done.. The chainsaw took care of the tree over the spot I parked her..

Just get a good bug and sap remover from the auto parts store. if it is still there a light polishing compound will take off any residue only use a rubbing compound if it still doesn't want to come off then polish it and use a good sealant. Then see if you can find a auto paint suppy store for Dupont or PPG, see if thy have Wizards Sealant with the purple cap($11). Works better than any wax I have ever got from any autoparts store at any price. I leave my red 93 5.0 outside all time time rain and sun and it barely spots and the few it has and any bugs from driving wash right off with no effort. Should work the same for sap.

Having grown up in Atlanta where pretty much every tree is a pine tree I had a lot of problems with sap spots until a farmer showed me a trick. Put a couple of table spoons of K1 Kerosene per gallon of cool water and wash your car with it usin a mitt as normal. The Kerosene will dissolve any sap without scrubbing and it also forms a rust preventive barrier on any bare metal parts.

I know it sounds nuts but it works and does not harm your paint, glass or rubber parts. Farmers often spray kerosene on their farm equipment then run it up and down a dusty road to create a rust preventive barrier. Of course I'm not so sure the EPA would be wild about this but it's cheap and it works great!

Amen to that, brother. I hated it when I had to park my 98 TA outside. Ugh. After a while, despite my best efforts, it was covered in sap, grit, grime, and whatever else. I used a clay bar on that one and it made the paint as smooth as the day I bought it...

I've always used a clay bar and it did a great job.

Any autopart store should have it, it's a Meguiars product. It is literally a bar of clay about the size of a bar of soap. It comes with a bottle of spray cleaner/lubricant. You spray a liberal amount of lubricant and rub the clay bar over the car. Make sure to keep the area being treated well lubricated. The clay grips and removes everything from the paint as it rubs over it. You flatten and fold the clay as you go to continuously place the grit inside and to expose a clean surface of clay.

You can buy the spray lubricant separately as well, I believe it's the standard Meguiars Quik Detail spray, but check and be sure. I recommend you get another bottle, you will likely run out with the bottle that comes with the clay bar kit...

It'll do the trick. I have never heard anyone talk bad about the clay bar...

any parts store. i use mothers, and mail order only "Griots" claybars.

usually they come with a detailer spray that you use to wet the area and then you go other said area with the claybar, kneading it over. you will see the bar turn from yellow (color mine are) to gray/black while picking up the surface contaminates (reason you knead the bar). do a small area to see just how great it works. then do the rest of the car and follow up with a multi-stage polish and wax.

results tend to look like this:

Before claybar and sitting 4-5 yrs (previous owner):

    After claybar:

hmmm, I'm not certain, but I believe the clay bar is just going to remove the wax as well. It shouldn't impact the cleaning ability of the clay. You'll just have to wash and wax it again when finished.

I know you hate to waste the good waxing you just gave it, but you can always wash the car with dish soap first, or a wax removing auto soap, to remove the wax and be sure...

No, the clay bar shouldn't remove your wax. Just make sure you have the surface lubricated well in the area you clay.

The kits come with wax, that's what made me think it might remove the wax. I guess it's just there as part of a generic 'body' kit...
