Spray to keep bugs away?
I remember a few years back meeting a guy with a white camaro SS, it was in pristine condition and we were talking about eachother's cars. We got on the subject of our cars looking horrible when we get bugs on them. and he had mentioned that he had a shop apply some sort of a protectant that he said kept bugs off the front of his car. Anyone hear of anything like this?
2000 Arctic White trans am, ws6 hood, ws6 air box, slp lid, slp smooth bellows, slp loudmouth exhaust, shift kit, rebuilt trans, LS6 intake, 3.73 gears, Shaner S3 p/p throttle body, and a tune . SFC. C6 ZO6 rims 18" in back 17" in front. Drilled and slotted rotors.

I hope somebody comes out and helps you out cause I want to know too....
Other than keeping a good coat of wax or sealant on it I would'nt know what else would work....
My other thought would be and what I would use is a bra........2000 NBM WS6

I'm almost positive that it wasn't some kind of a clear plastic......I recall him saying it was some kind of a spray that they applied after his detail.....

Black- 99 WS.6 - Modified
Subscribed. Being that I live in mosquito alley, I'd really like to know too. I hate washing and waxing the car just to have it look like crap right after I drive it because of all the bugs I murdered on the way.

The link is for a film like the 3m I was talking about. Give it a shoot man. I would think that it might look weird depending on how obvious it is.

The other easy thing to do since majority of it happens at night. . . . . Apply a coat of someones quality glaze and Leave it. DON'T buff off. The next morning hit with a terry cloth and some Quick Detailor BETTER than new and NO water.
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

This is exactly what I do for long trips. When we gear up for a cross country venture I'll put a light coat of wax behind all the wheels down low for road tar and such, and either a light coat on the nose, or in my wifes cars case, I'll stick the bra on.
Once at the destination it's simple to wash the car off. Those bugs that would have normally been baked by the sun after a day of driving fall right off.
As far as trips around town I just don't worry about it.

I've experimented with the clear film. I'm actually running it right now on our 72 blazer, mainly just behind the tires and down low,,,to protect from rock chips when off roading. I also have it on the front of the hood mainly for rock chips as well, but I have noticed the bugs wipe off rather easily.
It works okay,,,,and I say okay as in meaning, if you have a car that you are really worried about appearances, (a show car) I wouldn't really want to use it.
You can see the stuff when you get up close. I used a parting line in the body to stop, which makes it more difficult to pick out.
It's also difficult to apply. Lots of soapy water and a hair dryer with a rubber squeegy are a must. Hard to work all the air bubbles out.
I'll see if I can find a pic and post it up here. Probably can't see it in the picture though. Once standing back about 10 feet it's invisible.

I just went out and took these, trying to show the clear wrap. I still don't know if you can see it in the pics.
Here is the front. I have it on the flat part of the hood, right in front. I did this in 2 pieces, stopping in the middle where the hood parting line is. I didn't think I could get the bubbles out of that area and make it look right. Maybe if you look closely you can see where I stopped with the clear wrap.
Like I said, if you are 10 feet back you can't see it.
Here of 2 shots of the same side, one is up close, trying to show the wrap, and the other is about 10-15 feet back.
On the sides I wrapped just behind the front tire, on the lower fender, the lower door and on the lower rocker just below the door. I stopped at the body line that follows the entire lower portion of the truck, about 10"-12" up from the bottom so as to try and hide the wrap.
Maybe you can see it in these pics.
Here is a shot of the other side maybe 25 feet back. I wrapped in the same areas on this side.

Ha, I wish. I worry more about that than I do about bug splats.
Don't park under trees, awnings, light poles, sings, or anything that provides shade for that matter.
