    Lovebug damage..

I have a black ss, and the front of my car was nailed by love bugs on a trip, after i got there, i hit them with high pressure water, to get most of it off, the next day, i washed it, and treated the front with a extra washes, scrubbing with bug remover, using alot of cleaners, and using polish, and wax products.. and in a few spots still, there are spots that look like the guts are splatted still, but the will not come off. I have tryed everything i can think of, i dont think it is paint damage, but if it is or isnt, is there anything else i can do>? Thanks..

They are acidic. Once the damage is done, its done. They pit the paint. The best thing to do is lay a few good coats of wax on before the season starts, wash and re-apply often.

Try a clay bar. If it doesn't come off with that then it's probably damage to the clear coat.

Damn, I've never had that bad experience with bugs. Those things are nasty then.

Love bugs will come off with wd-40,then wash with soap. The best way to deal with them is keep your car waxed-then they wipe off with quick detailer.

wd-40? hmm, that won't hurt the clear coat or paint?

If you have cleaned it and it feels smooth then the damage has been done. But good luck and if you find the cure post up so I can try it.

yeah , see, that's the problem i have. i run my hand over the car and those spots feel so smooth. and someone hit me in a parking lot once (how great huh?) and left like a red mark on my car...and it feels smooth too.

Just remember if you resort to WD-40 or dish washing soap you of course will need to polish & then wax the area as that stuff removes ALL protection .

A good coat of wax should prevent the dreaded love bugs from eating throuh your paint. I think once its in the clearcoat or paint the damage is done, because the acid in the bug's guts physically eats through the paint itself.

Yea well pam does help, but anyways, i asked what can help after they f'd up your paint, one of my solutions was to use rubbing compound, and then buff it.
