duplicolor color matching!!
Well i know its not perfect but i thought id share since im gonna paint my hood anyway.
After much testing and a little more money then i really wanted to spend, Ive discovered for 81U bright red paint codes, Duplicolor red Acryl Spray 5-0400, 5-0380, and 5-0290 are a VERY close match.
Ill show some pics once i get some paint spayed. I just thought id share at this point.Last edited by JoshuaGrooms83; 06-15-2011 at 09:27 AM.

I had to add since i did 3 template with 3 old licsene plates. I scuffed up the backs of them and then spayed 3 or 4 coats just to color. Ill post the pics of them up close on my car so everyone can see the color variation. Im thinking the strangly orange looking red is the closest it seems then the rest. Ill post to see if anyone else agree/disagrees

Navy Blue Metallic- '00 Formy A4
Is that a rattle can?

yep it rattle can for now. If i can find it in a can and shoot it with a gun, its as close as i can find around here.
I painted my lid today (good as day as any lol) with the brighter of the three and it turned out pretty good. Sanded the lid to include sanding the SLP off. Just used 240 grit for that then 400 grit for the rest of it. Primered, colored, then clear coated. Turned out pretty good. has a bit of a textured appearance which is fine with me under the hood but its still shiney.
Of course now i gotta clean the rest of the hood compartment lol

Be careful if you do paint your hood with that cause different materials might have a different effect on the paint? I rattle canned a fender on my car before and it looked pretty good. Its not actual painting that makes the job good, its the prep work that makes the job right

your telling me. I still have sore fingers from preping my rims lol but those turned out really good for my first rim job (lol no pun intended)
Lol yeah thats mine IBA lol. Ive been doing alot of exercising with my body armor on latly so i just leave it in the car for now.
As soon as the weather stopps being stupid outside, ill start prepping for paint.

The air box lid looks great. the texture just adds to the factory look. like its red plastic.
