tried to replace speakers last night
well last night i went out and bought some 6.5 to put in the front doors last night i got Alpine type R's to put in, they are 2 way speakers, now when i got the first speaker out it had 4 wires running to it?? why?? it should only have 2 i thought???
i looked for an AMP thinking it might be the monsoon system, but no amp
i did get the speaker to work, but was really low and the other stock speaker sounded a lot better, what can i do? anyone ever run into this before?
i got my door panel off so i really need help on this one buys

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
take back the type R's and buy full range 6.5's that have 4 inputs. you need to suffice all 4 wires; a tweeter connection, and a mid driver.

The mooson requires the 2ohm speakers (componets) like the popular infinity 62.7i's or the 63.7i's. There arent many options to go with the moonson and a reoplacement component. Also, there are two sets of wires because one is for the tweeter and the other the speaker. Hope this helps.

he doesn't have the monsoon-it's just a z28 RS. He has an aftermarket HU powering all the speakers @ 4ohms

which is better then? and they will let me hook up both positives and both negatives to this so i wont have to run any additional wire from the head unit?

Are you sure you don't have a amp...Can't see any reason why there would be 2 sets of wires going to the speakers unless there was a amp....being a Z28 RS shouldn't make a diifference, I have a 02 Z28/RS kit factory and have every option avaiable. the tweeter inputs on the front doors should be full range, but it sounds like there is a amp in there for the Monsoon setup. It would explain the reason the stock speakers sound better since they are amplified through the Monsoon amp. I've seen people use Alpine SPS-170A's for the fronts with good results after some modifications, but the 62.7i is the best overall stock replacement that has the same 2 sets of inputs like stock.

The Infinity 62.7i's are exactly the same as stock and connect like stock and would hook up all 4 wires. I would make sure about the Monsoon amp first though. The only reason there are 2 sets of inputs on the front speakers is the tweeters run 100% off the headunit at 4ohms, the woofer is run off the Monsoon amp at 2ohm, so that was the reason I was saying make sure to look good to see if you have the Monsoon amp. There would be no other reason your car would have came with 2 sets of inputs on the front door speakers unless it was dual amplified(1 off the hu and other off the Monsoon amp). Also, the wires coming off the Monsoon amp are crossed over so you wouldn't get highs out of them, the wires off the tweeter would be full range, but then you would be running your door speakers solely off the headunit and your sound would be cut way down since you would not be using the extra watts from the Monsoon amp.

Here is a link with some pictures I took with the stock Monsoon front door speakers and Infinity 62.7i's side by side. http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9297

62 is 2-way, and is considered by most to be quite sufficient
63 is 3-way, and is only needed if you really are concerned on your highs, tweets, etc.

i like my highs a lot, so ill get the 3's then, so its just as good just better highs?

The Infinity 62.7i sounds better than stock and the highs sound great . I have 62.7i's and they have a adjustable tweeter and you can turn the tweeter for a extra few decibles of highs. I think the 63.7i would be overkill on the highs. I have a Kenwood Cd in my car, so I am getting a few more watts going to them, but I have heard that even in cars with the stock HU they sound better. The 63.7i is the same speaker as the 62.7, but has a extra tweeter.

i might get the 3's just cause no one has them here, and if its too loud ill just turn them down to fix the problem.
thanks a lot guys

don't get the threes-that is too fucking much high end. you have no mids at all in your car, you should be concerned with that.
