    Subwoofer Repair?

Anyone ever try to fix their blown subwoofers? Well I blew out both my factory subs last summer and still don't have enough extra cash to buy the Kickers I want so I figured I wasn't hurting anything by trying to fix them since they are no good anyway. The driver's side was just barely torn but the passengers side only had about 1" holding the cone on. So I did the unthinkable, I duck taped them back together, lol. The drivers side sounds new but the passengers side still has a little rattle in it. What does everyone else use to fix them so I can get the rattle out of the passengers side one?

I have used both adhesive silicone -- like you would use in a bathroom -- and regular black Permatex successfully. Just have to spread it real thin and not do more damage to the surround. Those were for small tears - nothing like what you have described.

My alpine cone seperated from the surround and I used silicone. They weren't stitched though and no tears.

They can be repaired. A guy I work with worked at a sound shop and i told him I was looking into replacing them with the kickers...he told me to bring it in and he would take a look. he took it home over the weekend and replaced the surround and said he realigned the voicecoil. Looks brand new and sounds better than new...only cost $20. he has the other side with him now.
