    Stereo display is dead?

    Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 Trans Am and the other day I was driving with the stereo on and everything was cool. Then I parked the car, turned it off, and ran into the house to grab something. I then get back into the car, turn it on, and the digital display for the stereo is totally dead. Everything else with the stereo, speakers, and antenna still work perfectly fine - it's just the digital display that has seemed to died on me. Anyone else ever had this problem? I hope it's an easy fix and I don't have to get a new stereo. Thanks a lot!

If everything else still works I'd have to say the Head unit is toast.

The factory HU really is'nt worth having fixed either..

Probably cost more to have the display repaired then to simply replace it with a new one or a salvaged factory unit.

There is a very easy fix for this. The bulb to your display burned out, that is it. Open the unit and turn the light socket counter clockwise a 1/4 turn and it will release from the circuit board. I have seen a write-up on this while searching for ways to swap cd drivers in a monsoon head unit. If you have replaced it already, I'll buy the old one from you if the cd player works. Mine throws a e20 and won't allow me to use the aux port that I added.

So if my Monsson has the lights out on lets say half the face buttons i can open it up and r/r it by way of a bulb? and if so were do i get the bulb?...The dealership (under warranty a while ago) r/r `ed my first unit .......now years later it did the same thing (the lights on the face(buttons)... are out.....The unit works perfectly fine i just hate the lights being out...but got used to it so?

IMHO the best thing you could do with a 4th gen monsoon is bounce it off a wall.

Not even close to being worth time and money to fix.

Other than that you'd have to crack it open and remove one of the lamps for the face, then take it with you to a place like radio shack.

You could try the dealer, or auto parts too, just don't think you'll get very far with them.

As the factory HU really has no user serviceable parts inside. You could try a junk yard also.

    Good info for sure..

Maybe I misread, but I could have sworn they said, "the digital display is dead" and that everything else works..

If the digital part of the screen is dead I don't see how a light bulb will help.. Maybe I missed something..

I did however pull my other post because they are in fact back lit. But I'm thinking that's not what they are saying..

Happened to me also and I have a 2000 WS6.
It turns out the display works fine, its just the back lighting that went out.
You can open it and get to the little wheat bulb.
Once in there, replace it with a white LED and your good to go forever.
