Speakers Sound Terrible...HELP!
OK, I'm about fed up with this stereo in my '02 Camaro...Here is the deal...
When I cranked up my factory stereo, the speakers sound like they were blown. It didn't do it all the time, so I thought it was the Head Unit. I changed out the head unit to a new Pioneer. STILL DOES IT!!!
OK...So I then I thought it was definately the speakers, but ALL of them? Well, I changed ALL of them. 2 - 6.5's in the doors, 2 - 6.5's on the sides, and 2 - 4.5's in the rear. STILL F'n DOES IT!!!
What the hell!!!
Anybody else go through this? I can turn my stereo about 1/2 way up. It just gets to the point where it is loud enuff to hear while driving. Any louder than that and they sound blown/distorted again.
I had the monsoon system, and I heard that can be caused from the factory amp, but I've looked everywhere and can't find one! Where is it???
Any help would be awsome!!! ThanksNut

you need a real amp not that shit that GM puts in, and good speacker and make sure everything is wired up the right way, some times the past owners mess around with the wires and fuck up everything just my .02

I understand that, but is it the factory amp causing that problem? If so, do you know where it is located so I can rip that SOB outta there?!

i have no idea were GM puts it most likely in the stupid place you could think of, but you change everything but the amp so that should be the prob, if i was you i would rewire the hole sound system with real speaker wires to all the speaker to were ever you going to put the new amp, the only thing that goes to the head unit from the amp is the remote wire, just my .02

NBM- 2000 Trans Am
Factory amp is above the rear passenger side wheel well - take off the spare cover and you can see it up there

Yeah...I'm just gonna run new wires to everything...
I was hoping someonee would have a more "simple" answer. Dang the luck!
Thanks for helping, I'll let you know if it goes away, though I don't know why it wouldn't.

just like i said the wiring, for me most of the time its the wiring to, you always check the wiring first. but thats good that it was the wiring and not the amp so you save some money there anyways, the speakers were a good buy the GM ones suck, and about 95% of us change the head unit anyways

well, don't look at the 10 dollar wiring as the prob. The prob was the cheap, underpowered gm amp that you have now bypassed. You are now using the amp within your new head unit and not allowing the gm amp to distort it before reaching your speakers...so money well spent, not wasted! Enjoy it! Eventually you'll prolly want more than the head unit amp and put an amp in there

nahhh
That's what I have the system in my Grand Prix for. It would just add too much weight to the Camaro!

Sorry to bring this thread back up but what part of the wiring was the problem.
When I bought my car the to front speakers where blown(paper ripped all around). So I ordered 2 more new one from gm and replaced them and less than 2 months later the drivers sounds like it is busted agian.I never turn it up loud and I think it may be a wiring problem.
Thanks

The wiring didn't look too bad. I think the prob was in the factory amp. I just went ahead and ran new wire to every speaker straight off of the head unit.
