Does the car have the Monsoon system? If so, they are known for blowing speakers. The problem with a replacement is that the factory speaker is equipped with a dual voicecoil. I purchased a stock replacement from TA Creations last year and have had no further problems: http://tacreationsusa.com/speakers.htm

I believe it is this one: 97-02 Camaro Monsoon Rear subwoofer -- if you have the Monsoon system. When I purchased mine last year, they still had new ones for around $55. Easy way to check is simply pop off your speaker grill. There are tabs around the perimeter and you simply need to flex it a bit and it'll come right off.

If it helps, a Monsoon speaker will have 4 wires instead of 2, due to the dual voice coil.

Noooooo. It's 4 screws and a connector to replace it. You'll get charged out the ass for something you can do in 5 minutes, not to mention they'll want at least twice as much for the speaker.

From discussion of my own situation, which I want to resolve soon. (I determined I do have the Monsoon system.) Ideas on specific replacement subwoofers aren't many.
