Replacing the factory unit
Is it ok to just remove the factory unit? will it trip the theft deterrent? thanks

It won't set the alarm off, but if for some reason you try to put it back in, the original head unit will probably be locked.

Sorry I was tired when I typed the OP. I am getting a new to me GM radio to replace mine because most of the buttons are unreadable. The one I am getting is guaranteed to be unlocked. I was just curious if I can just take mine out and put the "new" one in or if that would cause anything to lock out.

Nothing will be locked just as long as the new radio is unlocked. There is a sticky I think on unlocking it if it is locked.
