Beltronics.. My buddy has one and it picks up the cops every time before they can pick him up. I think you can get them for under 200 on Ebay! I plan on getting one when i have the cash for now im running a 40 dollar ebay one which has worked well for what it is.

You get what you pay for. If you want one the best thing to do is save for a good one. Escort 8500 x50 or Val 1. You will waste your money on anything else trust me.

i have a cheapy cobra.........roughly a 100 bucks and 3 yrs old are so......has saved me many MAANY times......all these guys that say get a good one or nothin dont know what there talkin about in my opinion......im SURE a v1 or 8500 willl give u MUCH better proction but in my situations its overkill.....my buddys 8500 goes off constantly cuz its so sensitive......i reallly dont need to know about the popo 3 miles away.....mines useless against laser and when the cop is using motion sensing autoon in low traffic situations......but arnt they all useless during these situations?????

I have laser on my X50 it wont help if he hits you but if he hits another car infront of you it will give you time to slow down. This is how I use my radar detector. It first and formost keeps me aware of my speed. Second if there is a cop just down the road and I am at a red light about to have some fun I wann know that cop is there. I want it to be sensitive. Most of the police here use KA band...store alarms are for the most part K band. Many also use POP which means the police officer is using instant on ( cheaper detectors dont have this I dont believe). Save your money and get a good one. Or take the chance.... I don't know what else to tell you.

search....you'll find more than enough info
in this thread though -- I'm with Stricken1 100%
9500i (Escort) is another option -- more $$$ though than the 8500 X50 -- based on what you have said -- go with the 8500 X50 -- cheapest of the top models but far superior to anything below it

Don't cops give you a ticket no matter what though if you get pulled over and are found with a detector? I know most of my friends with no fuzz buster get off with warnings, but my friend who has one even though it is a legal one, gets the ticket ever time.
I think "legal kind = crap" though.

Look into getting a top of the line one if you get one. Yes a low end cobra model will give you some protection, but not enough. I've been looking into a Beltronics STi, or a PASSPORT 8500 X50. My friend has a 8500 X50 and it will always pick up radar before my cheap cobra does.

i had a cobra a while back and now have a V1 and love it. either way, i've gotten 2 speeding tickets and both were when i didn't have a radar detector on me. The cobra would go off like crazy and my V1 goes off every now and then at random stuff but really gives me a good distance of when a cop is coming up.

I'm not gonna get too far into this but the RX-65 is great and is a little cheaper then the other top of the line models. The 9500i....I'd wait a little longer the get this one, it has ramp up issues and the "true lock" feature is very dangerous to use, for many reasons, Google it up and read about that. The V-1 is the BEST at laser detection and has excellent range but comes with many false alerts, picks up automatic doors a mile away. Although laser detection is useless without additional contermeasures such as Laser Veil and/or Blinder m-25/m-45. The SR-7 is a nice set-up but scored lower on many many test, it's mainly for people who want something that's more concealed than a big box on your windshield. But you just gotta do your research and decide what is best for you and see what the police in your area use.

The V1 is a great detector but I don't need to know where the cop is I just need to know to slow down. As far as being pulled over and getting a ticket with a radar det. thats not true I was pulled over doing 80 in a 45 cause my dumbass forgot to turn it on LOL! But he pulled me over I know he saw it and he just told me to slow down and dont be late for work.

can anyone tell me about the sti radar detector?? does the anti radar detector DETECTOR future work?????
and does anyone know anything about what too look for for a good scanner??
i ran w/a RT charger @ 110mph till we hit the exit(ahead of him, mind you) on interstate today, we both get off the the same exit....half a hour later after eating, im cruising outa town a sheriff passed me going the other way, he sure stared at me hard (prolly trying to read the back plate as i went by him, i have no front plate) i wonder if someone called in and they put out a APB.....but im prolly just paranoid......but theres been too much POPing latly, especially if they pick up your detector first
