Power Antenna Replacement
My power antenna "like almost every other power antenna on an fbody" doesnt really work that great anymore...it'll move up and down about 3 inches but thats it. I have been debating either going to a standard shorty antenna or going to a power replacement...I found a power antenna replacement on ebay that says its a direct replacement that is plug and play. I was curious if any of you guys have used one of these or have a good recommendation on a power replacement?

I found the same one @ advanced auto parts...im gonna go look at it and see how much of a "direct replacement" it really is I did notice that the one on ebay states that it comes with an adapter to make it plug into the existing plugs in the fender, so im wondering if I need that adapter...I sent the ebay seller a message about the adapter that he includes with his. Either way, i'll find out sometime today whether or not it'll work.

Here's the response I got from the ebay guy...
"Hi,
All aftermarket units require 3 wire splices (color for color match provided)
The car and new antena line plug right into one another using the included adapter
Thank you for your interest!

Installed the new antenna this past weekend. Took about 30mins and it works great. It was almost a direct replacement of the stock one, but I had to splice the 3 wires that run it because it didnt use the GM connection that the old antenna used. Reception is 1000x better than my stock one...

I just started to notice mine is not going down fully, sticks up about 2inches when shut off. Then the next time is goes down all the way! I guess it is starting to go bad???

Another thing I was thinking was I just had my spare out to install my sequential turn signals, could the tire if not seated correct cause problems?

the tire can cause problems...especially if it is tugging on some wires that are behind it. The tire sites REALLY close to the antenna and the wiring that goes to the antenna. You could have bumped something when you put the tire back in...I'd start there first.
FYI...they have some internal components that go bad and that could be the problem as well. I'd make sure all the wiring is nice and snug first tho...
On a different note...one of the alarm sensors is attached the same wheel well and if it gets bumped or messed up, your alarm will go off randomly unless you replace it or unplug it...ASK ME HOW I KNOW THAT....Last edited by theorangeguy; 10-09-2013 at 03:58 PM.
