    New Deck with Monsoon system???

I have the Monsoon system in my 99 Trans Am. The stock head unit needs replaced due to the display going out in it and I would also like aux capabilities. I am worried that a non factory head unit will affect the sound of the monsoon system. Previously I have messed with stock decks and the sound was not as good. I am fine with the bass and sound of the stock unit for now but don't want to loose much with an aftermarket deck. I dont know much about the monsoon system set up.

search around...you'll do nothing but benefit from an aftermarket deck unless the appearance bothers you... Stocker is main source of distortion, and the #1 thing that should got first in our Monsoon systems.

In the 98 I had - I put in a Pioneer Premier head unit. It sounded great with the Monsoon system in place.....

Same here nothing happens, you can replace the head unit and keep the factory amp and speakers.....BUT...if you want to replace the speakers then thats when the amp wont work it runs on different ohms...

not true at all - spend some time learning about this stuff before blindly posting and possibly misleading someone..

4 ohm aftermarket speakers work perfectly fine with the Monsoon amp, without any volume loss or even a gain in volume (speakers with 90dB sensitivity or higher).

ha - well....yea - now you know how knowledgeable a lot of shops are -- was this a car audio only place or somewhere like Best Buy, etc? (sorry I assumed you were blindly posting - reference your sources then you can't be blamed!)

That was definitely true for the Bose systems. In my 94 Camaro, I had to have everything rewired for the new head unit & speakers.
But in the 98 Camaro with Monsoon system, along with the pioneer unit, I had Rockford fosgate w/tweeters put in the front doors - worked GREAT!

Very different systems - Monsoon amp runs off of speaker-level inputs; the Bose system uses a high voltage, low-level output from the head unit to high impedance speakers with individual amps which use floating grounds. Without the proper Bose adapter, aftermarket HUs will destroy the rest of the system.
