    My New Starter Button

I just wanted to share a few pics of my new starter button I added to my Firebird. I went out of my way to find a button that was simple and looked like it belongs in the car. This is an electronic starter button from a Volkswagen Touareg. The button only works when the key is in the ignition and turned to the on position.

It looks nice, but why bother to do this if u still need to put the key in and turn it to run? Looks like more of a hassle then just turning the key a little more.

To David - I partially did this as a kill switch.

Most importantly, it's just neat to get in the car and wait just long enough to get my passengers attention and see the look on their face while I flip up the lid and push the glowing red button to start the car.

Concerning the USB, I went though a lot of work to put it there and relocate my 12v socket....a month later I bought an iPod and now I never use the USB port....lol.

    Thanks for the nice comments!

To Sommer86: No, sorry I don't have a write up. I just bought an USB cable from my local car stereo shop that had a connector trim plate on the end. I then epoxyed it where my cig lighter used to be.

To Armani: Visit HUmount.com for the hu mounting plate that I bought. They have several different fonts and backlight colors to choose from and they work with several different popular vehicles.

The start button was a little complex since it's an electronic start button designed to be attached to a computer and not directly connected to 12volt starter wires. You would need some experience with soldering and electonics to get one to work.

The Humounts are nice I've got one. Be warned the guy gets them out quick but the Canadian postal system sucks, took 3 weeks from the day he sent it till I got it. So if you get one don't worry you'll eventually get it and they are worth the wait. Nothin against u guys up their in Canada but your postal system does suck.

    To sommer86:

That usb cable that I have is from an Alpine KCA-620M. I could not find the cable itself separate from the USB Ai-Net unit. I tried Pacparts.com (an Alpine parts supplier) with no luck, but perhaps your local car stereo shop could find one for you. I asked CarTunes if they could get one for me (over a year ago) and they did. Perhaps you could also locate the whole unit for cheap on ebay/craigslist so you can get the cable. The unit itself sucks, so I would imagine people are trying to get rid of them. The USB extension cable that comes with the unit has that round USB plate already attached.
