    monsoon or regular?

what is the easiest way to tell if a system is monsoon or not? i am almost wondering if my headunit was replaced (the stock one) my speaker set up is this:

Front: tweeter and 6.5 in the door
pillar: 6.5 on the column (right behind my head when sitting in the seat)
rear: some weird little speaker with another tweater in the hatch

i'd look for the amp but don't know where it is!

    No problem.

If you are still worried about your HU being different -- realize that ALL HUs, Monsoon or not, were identical. Only difference was that some Monsoon HUs had a Monson sticker on them....even though they are still the ordinary Delco units. Earlier years of Monsoon from what I've seen were more likely to not have the Monsoon sticker on the HU, so it wouldn't be expected on your '98.

so i just went out and looked and there is a little box (pry roughly the size of 2 boxes of cards stacked on top of each other) that says "sensor" on top of it. is that the amp? cuz that's all there is back there and it sure doesn't look like any amp i've ever seen!

That's the shock sensor for the factory alarm.

In front of that, on the other side of a black plastic piece (or whatever piece is there that isn't metal), there is the Monsoon amp -- not in plain site. You can reach back and feel it or remove screws and pull it out to see it.

see that is what i thought, so the black plastic piece in front of it looked like something to do with the rear seat belt, in front of that?

i think i found the little bastard, its to the side of that little box, behind a kind of black plastic wall. looks like i'd have to take the tire off, and then the wall off to see it, but i see where some wires run over top of the tire, and then go back behind the wall, assumingly to the amp.
