    Monsoon aux adapter?

Is there an aux adapter that I can get for the monsoon radio? If so where? I usually like going all aftermarket, but would rather keep the original radio in my t/a

You've only got a few options...one is the AUX mod which requires cracking the radio open and soldering some wires inline with the CD player that taps into the input. It tricks the radio into thinking your iPod is a CD. Works really well.

Second one is the inline AUX box then plugs into external CD player connection if you have an external CD player. Crutchfield carries them.

Third is an FM transmitter that plugs into your antenna connection in the back of the radio...they aren't your standard cheap ones from BestBuy. They are anywhere from $50-100 on Amazon and you have to tap into power behind the dash to power it.

Those are pretty much all of the available options for the monsoon system.

It is. I did mine in less than an hour the other night. Here is the write up I did on my blog about it.

I used the exact thread posted above to accomplish it.

wow...thats a great write up! did your head unit have the tape player built into it? Only reason I ask is because mine does and I have all the stuff to do this mod but i've never started on it.

yes you can. it is basically tricking the radio into thinking that the signal is a CD. So if you have the ipod off or not plugged in and play a cd it will pass through it.

No tape player, mine was just the standard CD deck. I'm not sure if that would cause any trouble making it work or not. I would think that as long as you have the head unit set to use the CD and you're tapped into the right cables for left & right channel that it would work. I would look through that thread on LS1Tech and if they don't mentioned a tape deck ask about it. Jason Novak was pretty quick to respond when I had a question about the cables in mine.

mine has the tape deck in the head unit and has the cd changer in the hatch...so mine is going to be a little more complicated.

Hmm, in that case you might be able to tap into the tape deck channels instead of the CD changer for the aux jack. In theory it should work the same as far as I know.

I picked up a cat5 network cable to do mine and it looks like he got the same thing...the individual wires on the inside of the cable are color coded so it makes it easy to match up.

Yep, I just used an old patch cable I had laying around. The CAT5 will have 4 twisted shielded pair in it, but you only need 5 of the wires. They are twisted in colored pairs... blue/blue & white, orange/orange & white, green/green & white, brown/brown & white. I chose the blue pair for one channel, the orange for another and then green for my ground then snipped the other off to keep confusion down and have them out of the way. Another reason I liked using a CAT5 cable is that it is solid core and easier to deal with than stranded, especially when trying to thread it through the tiny holes in the aux switch you are wiring in. When wiring the ground my advice would be to leave the connector ground alone and put it on the radio chassis. If you look on at one of the sides, there is a screw that is holding another piece of metal still on the inside. I made a loop on my ground wire and used that screw to ensure a solid ground.
