metra mounting plates?

Which metra mounting kit is used for our cars. I bought the one that says will fit 98-02 firebirds, and sure enough it doesn't fit. I returned it and looked at the others for gm vehicles and none will work?

They all have numbers on the top none of the ones i've found worked, so what mounting kits have you guys used that have worked. Specifically the one in the head unit instal thread
