How-to wire 93-96 Camaro tail lights for a 97-02 Camaro

well iv searched everywhere for this answer and couldnt find a single answer...

What i was doing was installing 93-96 Camaro taillights/harness into my 2000 Camaro...
the reason i used the harness from a 93-96 was because i wanted my whole taillight to light up fully and properly just like the lt1 style set-up...
well the problem is the lt1 style harness is only a 4 wire plug and the 97-02 harnesses are 5 wire... the extra wire is lt blue which is the BLS(brake light switch) wire...
on the lt1 style set up they run the BLS through the Turn/Hazard(multi-function switch(MFS)) and share power for the turn signals.
on the ls1 style set up they go straight from the BLS to the lights...
after studying the wiring diagrams trying to figure something out the most obvious option was sitting right infront of me...
both LT1 and LS1 cars use exactly the same Turn/Hazard switch, so why not splice the lt blue wire into the switch for the brakes and run them through the MFS?
here is some diagrams of both cars from ALLDATA...

i traced the wires we are worried about in both diagrams!

    2000 Camaro
you can see where the blue wires goes from the BLS straight to the tail lights!

    1996 Camaro
you can see where the blue wire goes to the MFS to the tail lights!

and here is what we did to solve our problem!

first remove the covers from under the steering wheel
you will then have to pinpoint your MFS wiring harness and look at the White wire(that wire is not used on the LS1 style tail lights because it is bypassed to go straight to the tail lights through the lt blue wire!!!

then find the white wire and you will see that there is nothing on the other side of it!
what i did was just pull it out of the MFS harness because it isnt doing anything where it is and it is easier to work with!

then pinpoint your brake light switch and you will see 2 connectors, one with 4 wires and the other with 2, the one with 2 is what you want you will see an orange and that lt blue wire coming out!

take some extra wire you have atleast the same size as the LT blue wire and solder, crimp, splice it on to the white wire and protect it with electrical tape or heat shrink... i soldered it because im fairly good at it and i feel better about it being a strong connection!

then "SPLICE" into the lt blue wire on the BLS with the wire you used to connect to the white wire on the MFS... you do not want to cut this wire off because it sends power to your third brake light (high mount BL)

use i used electrical tape for the BLS because it would of been to hard to put heat shrink on it...

plug everything back in that you unplugged and wrap up everything so it doesnt fall down...
put all your panels back in and enjoy your working LT1 style tail lights....

    Video...

I am not responsible to anything that may happen when your are doing this please take your time and study the diagrams!
