can i get the code to a stock radio

I am replacing the radio in my goat with the same stock one out of another gto,, i can not get the vin # of the car it came out of,, can the code be traced with the serial # off the radio? or do i need the vin#?

There are 2 buttons you push to get a 4 digit code and GM has to call and unscramble it for you. I had a friend that did it for me back home in MI. If they won't do it you may have to take it in and pay the 1/2 hour labor. There is no need for the V.I.N.
