    Aftermarket Stereo w/wheel control.

I am going to buy an aftermarket HU and want to keep the steering wheel controls. I have seen that you can use the PAC system but is there two versions or something? One i have seen uses a IR receiver that you have to mount in order for the comtrols to work and I have also seen HU that you dont need the IR reciever? Is this the same thing or does it matter what brand HU you buy?

I just put in a PAC SWI-X in my car (1999 TA) so I'm sure it's the same for yours. It's universal, and they have a decent amount of internet support. You do have to mount a IR LED somewhere else in the car, and it only works with aftermarket head units that can be controlled with a remote. I drilled a small hole near the top of the cup holder in mine. The led grommet comes in the same color as the dark grey TA interior. It basically turns your steering wheel controls into a remote. It looks overwhelming when you read the directions, but it's actually quite simple.

All the adapters that I know of for this car require the IR remote recievers. Most headunits will work, but the PAC website tells you which one's aren't compatable with thier products. Most are JVC and Sony to my recollection.
