    1998 Monsoon 500 Watt Subwoofers

Hey guys, i have a 1998 T/A A4 with 46,000 original miles and my interior is stock except for a roll cage. Well anyways im gettin kinda tired of the stock subwoofers even though they are decent and the rest of the speakers are pretty nice. i wanted to know if i can take the sailpanel subs out and put in Kicker compt vt 6.5" subs without replacing anything. Like i said i just want to unplug the old ones and purchase the kickers and plug them in. Can i do it? If i cant i wanted to purchase a sub with a box and have it work with my EQ. please let me know

If they make it in a 2 ohm then yes. Even better would be a dvc 2 ohm. If just a single you might lose a little bass.

The Kickers will fit. But, not exactly plug and play. I had mine installed for me.

Just find out what the stockers have for a load. The stockers should be SVC. Then just find a speaker that will fit and can be wired to that load.

It will work then. Since the t/a has a dual 4 ohm try and get a dvc speaker. Otherwise just hook up one voice coil. I get confused between camaro and firebird. They have different setups with the monsoon.

If you just replace the sail speakers you will be fine. Plenty of people on here do it. The only reason to rewire is if you got a new headunit and front speakers and wanted to do away with the monsoon amp. Are you using the factory headunit?

They won't be totally plug and play. The stock is dvc and the kickers are single. You won't be using one set of wires.

It's the mounting them that's tricky.

They don't just bolt up. A little fabrication needed. That's why I had them installed for me.

I think I paid like $75 to have them installed and maybe $150 for the speakers themselves. I still have the stock Monsoon system and all seems well. They do sound better then the stock subs. I could barely even feel them. Even with my hand against the cover. They were pretty weak.

I don't know if they still make them though

I bought them like two years ago or more. Then they sat on my shelf in the garage for months after I realized they weren't just going to bolt up.

I have the CVT65, 2 ohm. $50 is cheaper than what I paid And the stockers sucked. Not the kickers. But my stockers were blown. Real raspy at times and like I said, couldn't feel them even with my hand on the cover and the bass turned all the way up.

I could be wrong, but I think the T/A might be 4 ohm for the subs. I always forget. I'm going to have find out and jot it down for future reference

    That's what I thought

I couldn't really tell you for sure. Like I said, my stock subs were vibrating and making noise soon after I bought the car.
