Suncoast Ram Air hood water management

All Suncoast Automotive Performance Hoods are designed with water management built in. That is a key difference between a Suncoast hood and many of the inferior hoods available on the market today. Two key components of our water management systems are baffles and weap holes. Water entering the scoops will encounter baffles, side walls, and channels which stop the incoming water droplets and flow them to low spots where weap holes allow the water to drain out into a safe area of the engine compartment. OUr GM hoods were subjected to their water managment tests where 5 high pressure car wash arms direct water at the front of the vehicle while is runs. The car must run for 45 minutes with this much water being blasted at it without sputtering. In my own experience, I routinely drive at normal highway speeds in our Florida downpours with my Suncoast hood working fine while others pull off the road because they can't see. I've never had a problem in 28,000 miles.

    Suncoast Hoods and weight savings

Whenever we design a hood, we target a weight about 10 percent under the stock hood. Our primary goals are stiffness, crash worthiness, and ram air performance. If we also save weight, great. By targeting roughly the same weight we know the spring and struts that are already on your vehicle will be the right ones for our hood. (I've seen too many cheap hoods bow up under the pressure of a hinge spring or strut because no one took the time to make the design stiff enough.)

I've asked the guys in the factory to start weighing each of our hood models so that I can provide a more definitive answer in the future. I'm an engineer so data talks, everything else walks. My apologies on this round. If you've got a specific model in mind, PM me and I'll get that weight right away.

If I add the ram air kit it's telling me +$310. Do I need to not select that or, is it not included?

I assume you are talking about on the GP shopping cart at:

Camaro and Firebird GP Shopping Cart Link

The hood is the base price. As you add accessories the price gets adjusted. Accessories include: ram air kit, heat extractors, and decals. These all are priced separately. The default is to not add the accessory and order only the hood.

Thanks, Sorry I misunderstood. I noticed the first post said that " Ram Air kits are also included in the GP" and thought that was going to be included in the price. It's a fine hood.
