Wheel Hop in the burnout box

A friend of mine and myslef went to the track last friday, him with his 06GTO and me with my 00TA, just for some fun. We went last year and I didnt run. This year after he put 20s on his car he had terrible wheel hop in the burnout box. Last year he didnt have any problems with his stock wheels and tires. Other than changing the wheel size the car is the same as it was. He does burnouts all the time on the street and never had any problems before and the car is driving fine afterwards. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Could it be the tire and the wheel size causing the wheel hop?

Yes...he has changed the geometry....secondly he shouldn't be doing burnout if he is running DOT tires anyway....

When DOT tires get hot they get slick...when slicks get hot they get sticky....

That is what I thought, but when I went to the track, I was litterally the only one not burning off my tires before I ran.

And there were other stock cars too.

The pit crew was looking at me funny, when I would drive around the water pit.

I just looked at them like DUH, street tires. -- Wet tires equals crappy traction.

I burned off both times before I ran last Friday, I ran a 9.00 and 8.96 in the eighth. It didnt feel like the tires spun loose at all, will have to try not burning off next time. Mabey thats why I thought that I should have done better? The GTO has ran 3 times and not done any better than like a 9.5 in the eighth, that is probably why, he is a pretty good driver so it shouldnt be a driver error.

yeah when i ran the gto the other week i asked which side is the best to go around the water. the guy said through it and do a burn out. i told him he was a jack ass and when i took off i didnt spin at all. they were all dumbfounded. 90% of the people do the burn out on street tires because it looks cool and they think it helps.

He is gonna switch out his 20's for his stock wheels and go back up this Friday and see what it can do.
