    Weight reduction

The gto is a porky car. What have yall done to trim some of the weight off? Has anyone removed that skidplate from under the engine?

    TIA,
    Brett

Yes that was one of the first things I did. As long as you aren't going 30mph up into driveways and 20 over speed bumps I NEVER has any issues.
That spare tire and jack weny out the window too. I have been a long time AAA member and not changing shit on the side of the road......

Not sure on exact weight. I know I lost alot by terminating the huge stock mufflers and the "pre muffler" that is on the 05/06 cars.

My other major weight reduction was throwing the 2 piece driveshaft in the garbage and putting a aluminum 1 piece.

Also take out the tow bar out of the rear of the car, for some reason it is set up to pull a trailer. Unbolt the shroud under the rear of the car and it will unbolt

Oil pan bottoms have been exposed for decades. Do these hang extra low or something??

If I remember correctly you must remove the spare and jack due to a studded bolt that goes through the floor pan.

If I was worried and wanted one for protection I would at least get a aluminum one.....

I don't think a skid plate of any kind would have helped 2 Brick walls and 2 Curbs !!!
