My response may be totally off, but is it possible for you to hav somebody apply upward pressure to the truck while you press the release button?
Not sure how the goat's works, but for some cars, if there's not enough upward pressure being applied by the weatherstripping to "pop up" the trunk when the release button is pressed, when the latch re-closes, it re-locks the lid.

Thanks for reading and responding...but the latch has let go...and none of the cables are connected...so there is no way to open the latch at all....seriously....there is only one way in to open it and that is a sawzall and cutting through the floor of the trunk...as stupid as that sounds....

Gas tank and safety frame are right behind the seats. You can take the seats out...but all your gonna see is a steel frame and 19 gallons of 93 octane looking back at you. Nope....got all the underbelly cover pulled last night and will sawzall a hole big enough to get my big ass arm through there and release the latch. Then I will cut out a hunk of aluminum and bolt it over the hole I cut....then I will cuss GM/Pontiac while putting a voodoo curse on the moron that designed the latch....finally...that plastic POS will be replaced with a homemade steel latch release of my making...I looked at the setup quite awhile ago and thought it looked "cheap and flimsy"....oh well....

i know when i hit my trunk release it makes the 'opening' noise and its doesnt open... all i have to do then i very lightly pull up and down 2 or 3 times on the spoiler, then it opens right up.
just and idea.

I appreciate that...but without a doubt the latch has come apart and the cables are not attached to it anymore.....sawzall time I'll write it off as a weight reduction project

I had a warranty for about 2 weeks Had the motor dangling in the air after that Just a few mods....and yes....Pontiac would've warrantied it no doubt....as it had nothing to do with any of the mods....but I dont want some dipshit banging on my car! This dipshit can do that just fine.....and no there is no key hole.....anyway...some pics...and yes...both the emergency cable and the electric motor cable had come off the POS latch....I fixed me up a little Texas Engineering certified solution that will survive a direct nuclear hit....sum biatch works like a champ now All I gotta do is borrow my buddies welding blanket to throw over the gas tank and run a little bead around there and I'm done with this weekends GTO projects.....

Sucks, man, but looks like you got it all squared away. I 'd have had Pontiac put a hole through the trunk lid then have them replace it with a new one. I'm anal when it comes to hacking into pieces that cannot be replaced.

Are there any other readers that don't have a key to access to thier trunk.Thats what we have to put up with when thier bean counters work overtime.
