Scammed by dealer on 2004 gto Blown engine oil pressure

Short and sweet I need mechanical help, I bought my 2004 GTO from a dealer it was moded with headers, mild cam lift and not sure if it was chipped. I am not very mechanical I just loved the way the car sounded and drove.

Anyhow the engine blew a year later and i pulled it and found the oil pressure sending unit had been cut and fused together and shrink wrapped so the light wouldn't go on, I called the dealer and they openly admit they disabled it because they could not get the light to go out and it was not needed as the engine pressure was in line with GM specs so the light must have a malfunction.

I am now dealing with the owner who tells me everyone who mods there car disables this light because the mods change the codes in the pcm and they can’t be corrected.

can someone please correct me and excuse me for my ignorance but is that true people would disable the oil pressure sending unit I must be crazy, I would have not bought the car in that condition.

any info will help so the next time I talk to this guy I can explain how wrong that is, I want to scream, swear and yell but I am keeping my cool for now.

I have NEVER heard of disabling an oil pressure switch. NEVER. I would hire an attorney to go after that dealership. They OPENLY admitted to disabling a VITAL engine component, which caused your fiasco. Who the hell...IN THEIR RIGHT MIND...would disable something that could have prevented engine failure?

Replacement engines can be found for that car, but it is taking YOUR time and money from YOUR wallet. Get an attorney and make the dealership pay for the replacement engine. Either that, or make them settle out of court so you can have the replacement motor installed at a REPUTABLE shop which will give you an awesome warranty.

Keep us posted. This shit is unbelieveable.

Rich is right on. If the dealership refuses, tell them you'll contact the local news. That should make them more than willing to help you out. They'll do anything to avoid bad press.

Thanks for the responses I am going to take this to court, the guy sais I should take partial blame for the engine falure as I drove the car for more than a year I'll let the judge decide who is right on this one, I did two oil changes on the car, changed the water pump and did rear breaks on the car but all that doesnt matter theres no engine right now.

Yeah, he said you will be held partially held at fault by the judge. BULLSHIT!!! The MOMENT the judge/attorney asks if you had drivability problems, and you say "NO"...that dealership is going to look like the utmost shit.

You might get some help in a new engine but doubting that you will ge it 100% paid for. Pro-rated most likely. I would go after them though.

Actually I’m in Canada and we have an agency called the VSA (vehicle sales authority) it is a consumer protection agency that will protect the consumer from this sort of thing, since the dealer did a "deceptive practice" did not disclose on the bill of sale or tell me what they did" once they are proven guilty they will be required to do a complete reversal and give the customer a full refund and get slapped with a fine as well.

I have asked 9 mechanics about this, and with your help I am totally assured there would never be a reason to disable the oil pressure sending unit on any car so it should be a clear win for me, unfortunately I cannot recover other incidentals I will have to sue for that myself as it's out of the VSA's jurisdiction....

This is just unbelievable. After all is said and done, I'd still go to the local news (unless there is a written agreement not to) so that the dealer's business gets whacked. No one should ever go to a place like that. If they did this to a GTO, imagine what they might have done/might STILL do to other cars. Best of luck to you slinky, I hope all goes well for you.
