NOS system or exhaust and tune
I was looking over some mods. What do you guys think I should go with on my 04 GTO, a nos system or exhaust and dyno tune. Thanks for the input.

Definitely the exhaust and dyno tune. Nitrous only give you a power boost when you're spraying, and it can be very hard on the motor. The exhaust and tune will give you more HP and torque throughout the whole powerband, and the power is there all the time. Not to mention doing a full exhaust and tune will almost always net you an increase in fuel economy, since the motor can breathe better. Plus it will sound awesome

ide say it depends on what you want out of the car. if you want a weekend drag car go with the nitrous if you just want a starting point for some modsthen exhaust and a tune. either way on the GTOs a tune is needed badly at some point.

If it was me and I knew I was going to go NOS down the line anyway.
I would Exhaust (Cats/Long tube headers). 1st
Then toss on the Nos. 2nd
Then even if I had to wait for some more cash, I would
do the tune. As soon as I could.
Yet if me I would make sure I did SFC's (weld in, not bolt on)
and lower control arms with poly bushings first. It will help make
use of your $ spent on the others in the form of traction!
You may have done these already... a strut tower brace would not hurt
also, but some hate the front end stiffened up that much "not me".
Yet I think Sarge would be the one to take advice from not me.
I know not much on the GTO and how it runs, but it is a LS1 in the 04 "right"
and then not much diff I would guess.
Enjoy either way U go.Last edited by SS02; 01-27-2007 at 06:17 AM. Reason: error

Hands down the bottle all the way first!!!! The key ? is do yopum want to run 12's or high 13's with exhaust.....
Yes nitrous can be hard but at the same time can be VERY reliable and safe. Lot's people are scared and mis informed on the whole nitrous issue. I would do a 125hp NX wet system to start with....... Which will be OVER twice the gain you'll see from the tune and ex. and then onced you have some more funds do the tune and exhaust. Then you can step up the kit and have the tuner tune the air/fuel on the bottle.
I have MANY customers with stock motors and stock PCM tunes running the 125 for years with no problems.
Proper install makes a huge difference!!!
Feel free to PM me for ?'s.
That's my 2 cents take it or leave it.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

Input given and Looking for some input myself!
List below is in add on mod order order to show, that the LS1 for me handeled/handles the Nos just fine before and after tune (larger gain after tune). Yet for awhile cheap HP/TQ and my internals are all stock SS LS1 that dynoed stock at 366 at fly with only K&M air filter replacement.
1st: SFC's / HD Lower Control Arms w/poly bushings / Strut Tower Brace
2nd: StainSteel Long Tube Headers with full catback exhaust and Poly Tranny Mount
3rd: 125 Shot NOS / RPM Act Switch 4 Nos / Purge Kit with several misc. items,
So for 6 months I ran like that, no real internal mods at all (NOS was not at 125 yet) When tune came Nos went to a even 125HP Gain, before tune (full LS1 edit tune) a 97HP gain was had for the gain. (cheap almost 100hp gain
I agree).
4th: Cluster of 3 gauges for Nos/oil/Fuel/Sfi Pulley Set w/Alt Pulley/
Smooth Bellows on Air intake Sys/90 CFM High Flow Mass Air Sensor/
Nos cut off switch
5th: (and final 4 now) Full LS1 Edit/Tune
And no issues at all and U can see no internal changes yet.
Looking for advice on what you pros would do next.
I was thinking LSX Fast Poly Manifold/Push Rods/some head work(not sure
here on details at all-getting out of my league of knowledge here).
That is the main reason I found this site, I need to sure with knowledge
drop off/non-of this I will do myself so do not want yanked around.
So looking for help here:
Sarge step up buddy, Ur one I was wishing to get input from.
LS2Tuner and your on the help me list also, if so kind and I can ask.
Sarge has shown a great willings to advise already, I hope it that
still stands?
And others would be great to follow... the two listed, I have seen there
know how on many threads and 2 many to list them all. I was pretty confident on my choices and plans up till now.
02 SS with above mods, 3.73 gears and 4 sp Auto with edit adjustments.
Ask anything U might wonder guys in info from me.
If not asking out of line, Great!
Thanks All
