Anyone know what's the deal with the next GTO model Year? I thought I had read that it was coming out end of this year or next year? Anyone have any info on this?

That's sad to hear, was really hoping to see the Name GTO stay alive. I wish the last models would have had better sales numbers, maybe that would have helped. My buddy bought an 05' a few months back and after riding in it a few times I've really grown to love it, the interior is great, the ride is great, and it pulls waaaay harder than I expected from such a heavy car.

Yup, unfortunately I also think we've seen the last of the GTO. At least for the forseeable future. GM won't make anything else to compete with the Camaro.
Besides, as I understand it the GTO was just a "filler" between 4th gen and 5th gen.

The reason there won't be another GTO in the near future is because of CAFE. GM simply can't make another car that gets the kind of mpg the LS powered cars get.

Yes they can. Variable valve timing will be our friend going forward.

that does sound like a good idea...if only the GM engineers would pull their head out of their ass for a change and get the idea that not every car they make for the minoritys can be extremely economical and not sporty and for the middle class and rich be top dog looks/performance

hell i bet if they made a V6 corvette they would make SOOOOO much more money than they do...but..its their marketing strategy.

Hmm, let's see, GM makes the L76 for the G8 with 360 hp and it gets 15 mpg. The older LS2 got 40 more hp and better gas mileage. Looks like GM isn't going forward at all.

Jap car makers on the other hand could put an engine together that would make 800 hp and somehow get 50mpg on water or some shit.

As someone else said, GM needs to pull their heads out of their asses.

    There's a few variables you're missing.
Trans, weight, aerodynamics (sp?), ect all have an affect on mileage.
