New to the GTO, but not the LS1

I have a 2000 Trans am so I dont need any response about the motor, however a good friend of mine just traded his 07 Impala in for a 04 Red GTO Auto. Bone stock 20kmiles, just wonder, what are the week points to these cars, drivetrain and suspension wise. I know the driveshafts are 2 piece but other than that i dont know shit.

Its one heavy SOB. But weight reduction can take off a couple of hundred of lbs depending how hardcore you are. Be prepared to get people coming up to you and asking if thats a "GTO" and how the old ones are better lol. Overall its a solid car, ive owned mine for 3 months now and have no real problems with it. Its more of a comfortable car compared to my Z. A lot more room and luxury in the cab compared to Fbodys. And I love being able to work inside my engine, and it took me 40 minutes to swap out plugs and wires in my goat and dont have to get underneath to get the 8th plug on a fbody.

I know there were some GTO's the have issues with front strut rub...may want him to check the inside of his front tires and struts..Also there were some that had kinks in the fuel line comeing from the fuel tank....The 2 pc. drive shaft is deff the weakest point in the drive line...I've heard the axel stubs, rear-end, and cv's are good till your into the low 12's high 11's, that's with drag radials. Since he has an auto though, his drive-line will be able to handle more than the M6. The auto has a torque mangement system, he should REALLY consider getting a diablo tuner or something similar if not a tune to get rid of this, I have an m6 but have heard people saying it was NIGHT AND DAY difference once they got rid of the torque management in the autos. Again I have an M6 but I know wheel hop is a mother F'er in the M6, pretty sure it'd be in the autos also, A set of Drag bags will GREATLY reduce if not rid the car of this problem...Wheel hop is also what breaks things, so getting rid of it is a priority. Theres also hardware for a trailer hitch...A thread floating somewhere around here with pics and stuff...Take it off and I hear its a quick and free 10-15 pound weight reduction. I know theres a few more little things but cant think of em right now...lol. Anyway...hope this helps some.
