Black- 2002 camaro Z28
Need GTO info
Im thinking about trading in my 02 Z28 for a 04-06 GTO. I have a long drive to work everyday and was wondering what type of gas mileage a stock GTO gets? Im averaging about 23 mpg and have seen up to 28mpg on the highway. I also do some drag racing on occasion (street and strip) was wondering how GTO's stack up against an 02 Z28. My best time at the track was a 12.98 at 109 with small bolt on intake exhaust catback smooth bellows. And one last thing I've driven a few cars with throttle by wire and there always seems to be a noticable delay. Is this common or noticable on a GTO? thanks for any info

Black- 2004 GTO A4
My 04 GTO auto. averages about 22-23 MPG on the highway. The on-board computer tells me 20, but when I make the actual calculations it is around 23. Your arse will benefit greatly from the GTO's comfy seats and leg room. Also, your view of the road will be 100% better. The ride is nice but firm and the car will track better! Good luck.

All depends how you drive it, but the GTO does give you a much better ride.

I get about 20 combined city highway and for somereason I can't keep my foot out of it. Love the ride much better than the Z not as fast (my Z is nowhere near stock) but feels much better and more surefooted on turns. Kids love the GTO much better than the Z (back seat). Wife actually loves the GTO (don't quite know if thats good or bad I keep getting stuck with her car). I haven't raced anything good in it yet nor have I taken it to the track but it feels faster than my Z did stock.

We get about 17 mpg around town. 20 mpg+ on the open roads.
Only mods so far is a K&N CAI.
SLP LT'S and cats going on this week. Maybe we'll pick up a couple more mpg.

Pewter- 99 Camaro z28 Convertible
gut feel- goat wins by a nose.
I have both - 99 z28 and o4 goat. The goat wins by a wide margin for ride, quiet and "torque-e-ness". It throws you back in the seat much harder. I don't have time slips to prove it but really just seems to run stronger. PS - both are stock stock stock. (Boring I know)

The GTO is a great car with just a couple downfalls, the ls1 has the same setup as a F-body, but weighs more and has IRS which is bad for drag racing. The ls2 GTO is an awsome car and good fight for a m6 f-body. Really though once you start talking about the ls2 GTO your entering the price range of the c5 ls1 and some c5 z06s go for around 25k. My neighbor jsut cold his z05, with bolt ons and it was lowered. With 42k for 26 grand.

Thats why i love GM, 25 miles to the gallon making 345rwhp with 3 bolt ons. I have slo wondered that, they say the ls1 is a 350hp 355trq at the crank motor. Most of us with headers, catback and lids make 320-350rwhp, now i made 345rwhp which translates into 380-390 at the crank, so the ls1 picks up 30-40hp wit hjsut headers, catback and a lid. Thats amazing

Well i wouldnt want a GTO as my DD. Its a beautiful car that needs to be taken care of and driven when the time is right. Not that havign a GTO as your DD is a bad thing when you dont get alot of snow. I just wouldnt want to put that many miles on my T/A.

Yeah i got an idea, keep the camaro, buy a car that is cheap and will last you a few years, stop putting miles on a beautiful car like that.

cant afford 2 cars and I get borred with the same car after about a year or so. I've had 5 cars in the last five years. I'd even be happy just getting another camaro or t/a just a diff color and options.
