Help me out with this weird HVAC problem

I noticed no output from the floor vents the other day. Further investigation finds:
1) no floor output when selector is set for floor.
2) floor output when selector is set to defroster/floor.
3) no floor output when selector is set to dash vents/floor.

I watched the solenoid operation as I changed the air flow. When I put it on defrost/floor, the solenoid for the floor moved and I got air from floor vents. I then moved the control to floor only and the air stream got stronger and stayed that way for about 5 seconds, then the solenoid started moving and gradually shut off the air stream out the floor vents.

I've also noticed that sometimes when in deforst/floor mode I will get floor output for 10-15 seconds before it shuts off also.

Can anyone give me a clue on how to fix this?? No one on ls1gto.com could help me....

Sure...I had the EXACT same problem. Turned out to be the controls themselves....the entire assembly in the dash.....Pontiac dealer replaced the entire thing under warranty.....said they had a Service Bullentin.....

Think they'd replace that on an 04 with 36,400 miles??

Sarge was right. It was the climate controller. I snagged one off ebay for $40. I also bought some stereo head unit pullers for $15. I found this to help me out too:

Dash removal here

Total cost of $55 and now I have floor ventilation!!
