Just curious, how do you get a Collector's plate? What qualifies you as a collector?

Several ways
1) Show that the car was a limited edition --or --
2) Show that the car is in demand as a collectable --or --
3) Show (receipts and photos) that a major investment has been made in the car
I tried to show all three, GM production numbers for a 2004 GTO and specific numbers for my options. Showed car show awards from the 2009 GTOAA Nationals show in Dayton and from the POCI north coast show. Showed lots of pics, a spread sheet listing over 35K for upgrades and over 25K in copies of receipts.

THere is a local guy here that runs a classic or collector plate on his car as well. Rightfully so, he doesnt ever drive it that much. But still, very interesting.

Very cool Russ, I love it! Yes you can get one in Texas only if it is 25 years or older and you can only drive it to car shows and such. Had one on a 71 volks vert, like $60 for 5 years and insurance went down, but I drove it all the time and never had any problems.

Not trying to hijack thread so I'll just post a link that shows all details for Illinois.
In short car has to be at least 25 yrs old.

To the OP, that is an awesome plate. My wife once asked me why do you need your plate to say Z28 if you know its a Z28? Women...02 CETA #654 7800 miles

In PA all you need to be exempt is to drive the vehicle (any) under 5k per year and you're exempt. The catch here is if you don't tell them they will still test it and you pay for it to be tested for nothing + sticker. My z34 has been exempt for a few years now. Next year will be the Camaro's turn.
