Flywheel, clutch, other
Spoke to the local transmission shop that I normally trust with all my work. Really good guys, fair prices. I hate working on transmissions...
Quoted 1127 bucks to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and flywheel on the GTO. Said the flywheel can't be resurfaced, and must be replaced. Is this true of the flywheel in our cars/LS1's?

No, they can be resurfaced, I went with a fridenza aluminum, and spec3+ clutch though. Sounds about right on the price(I guess), but I wouldn't pay it!! I think you can get it cheaper, buy the parts off of E-Ghey from a reputible shop and just pay them or someone else for labor

I need a clutch that will take the abuse of many trips to the track without any worries of not being able to drive it home. Any ideas??? I hear the LS7 one would be fine but want more info...
I will be launching around 4000RPM no weight reduction
I am N/A right at 500 crank HP.

You will need more than an LS7 clutch in a 500HP car with that weight.
Check out Monster clutches. A lot of guys have had good luck with them.
As far as the flywheel resurfacing goes, it is NOT reccommended that you resurface the flywheel on LSX vehicles. Whenever the clutch is replaced, the flywheel should be as well. Its due to the fact that our cars use a concentric slave cylinder to release the clutch. If you notice, any clutch kit you buy from an auto parts store comes as a clutch/flywheel package, as well as the LS7 kit.
Not saying it can't be done, but for the extra money its worth just buying a new flywheel.

McLeod Street Twin
I'll tell you FIRST hand a LS7 clutch CAN'T handle MANY passes with 400+RWHP hooking with Drag Radials.
I would spend the money once and do it right.
McLeod RST Street Twin
I can put these in cars with 600+RWHP and hot lap them at the track with back to back nitrous passes and they don't blink!!
It's an AWESOME set-up that I have NEVER seen go bad since the first design for the Mustangs in 98-99.
They have LESS pedal effort than stock.
Hold up to 800 hp with the McLeod RST Street Twin clutch kits.
Intended for high-horsepower street fans, the McLeod RST Street Twin clutch kits are economically priced twin disc clutches that use your existing flywheel. Able to handle up to 800 hp, the RST Street Twin clutches remain completely street-drivable. The organic lined clutch discs provide smooth engagement with a soft pedal effort, making these clutch kits ideal for the street performance enthusiast.
Additional features include:
* Alignment tool
* Lighter-than-stock pedal feel
* Will bolt to factory flywheel
* CNC-machined and anodized flywheel adapter ring
* Organic disc facing for smooth and even clutch engagement with excellent release qualities
* Low rotating mass or quick revs
* Blanchard ground floater with multiple straps to reduce noise for streetabilityDon't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
