Exhaust advice for 04 A4 goat

Hello all.. I am relatively new to this site and am looking for some advice on exhaust for my 2004 GTO A4. (cannot afford headers just yet)

I have narrowed the search down to the following:

    Magnaflow catback
    SLP Loudmouth 1

I am not sure what the stock pipe size is for the 04 goat exhaust but I am pretty sure either of the above would be a vast improvement..

Anyone have anythoughts on the matter?

I am looking for a good deep sound, but not too over powering. Something a louder than stock, but is not going to be annoying at 70 mph on the highway..

    Thanks in advance..

The price of both exhaust packages are around 600, so that would be about the price range I am looking for if anyone has any other ideas.

I have been doing some more looking and found that the magnaflow may be the better way to go if mid pipes and headers are in the future.. just too loud with the loudmouth.. but the loudmouth sounds better with stock headers and cats... Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I like a good deep grumble.. something throatier than stock..

Whichever system you choose, have your 2 resonators (2nd chamber down) removed for extra deepness. This really brought my Magnaflow cb to the tone I like.

You'll see much more gains out of headers than a cat back. I would probably still have my stock cat back on if I didn't get such a smoking deal on a Corsa Touring. Other than sound, there really isn't that much power to be had by changing the stock cat back. I went from 12.6 to 12.5 with the cat back change, also gained 1mph.

It definitely helps when you have more power though.

I'd look for a nice used set of long tubes. Just about all are stainless, so they'll last for a long time. And, for the most part, are in your price range for the cat backs you are looking at.

Not to sound too mechanically dumb.. but what is the best way to remove the resonators....muffler shop or can it be done at home?

Would I need to get extra piping if I remove the resonator....

How does the stock exhaust sound with the resonator delete?

    Thaks for all the advice

well most shops wont remove them they think there cats, but i jacked mine up and used a recip saw cut them off, took them to the shop got some pipe went home installed teh pipe and welded them in. Sounded better a lil louder, seemed like it gave it a lil more power.

Right on... I am still debating and checking out clips online, but I do appreciate all of the advice...

I have had the goat now for 2 years and since the warranty is up, figured it is time for some upgrades.....

The resonators are for sound control only and not emissions. As Kyemt stated"Most muff. shops think that they are cats" and I had to wager that I would pay double cost if they were cats just to get the guy to budge on it.
When they were done and I pulled away, Ahh, made it all worth the hassle.
