Evaluated a G8 GT this morning

So I was driving in to work on the highway this morning when a brand new G8 GT pulls over in front of me to get around a line of cars. I figure no big deal and slip right up behind him noticing he's got his 30 day paper plates on. Well we go for about 2 miles up and down a few hills before we pass this line of traffic. So I figure now that he's clear he'll pull back over into the right hand lane and let me by. ...but no he decides to camp out in front of me at 73 mph. I figure no problem I'll just go by him easy on the right then. So as soon as I get into the right lane and start overtaking him he makes his jump....and well it was a very very short jump on his part. Guess he was just determined to make me go WOT. Needless to say I easily passed him and slid over directly in front of him to show him how quickly I was going to pull away. He must have been a quick study cause he backed off in a matter of seconds. With his bubble now burst and reality back in place. he continued on his way many lenghts behind me.

I test drove one when my brother was looking for a car. It was between a G8 GT and a GTO. It only took a matter of minutes to make that decision. The G8 is a nice car and if there are any low mileage ones around when my wife is done with the Durango that might very well be her next car. It just didn't feel like a performance car like the GTO does. The SEG factor wasn't there.
I did see one last week with vanity plates that said "past u". I was in my 04 so it would've been a close one but he turned into a gas station before we could find out. Would've loved to catch him in the f-body.

I am beginning to see more on the roads. They wave or flash me in the oncoming lane and I nod or give a rev back.

I'm sure this guy had a SEG all the way from the dealership until he ran into me. lol Poor guy probably had no clue what he was in for.

Let me know if you start looking for one for the wife. There is a dealership up here that gets 6 mth old rentals from Florida with very low milage on them. Last week I picked up a 2009 G6 (22k sticker) for my daughter with 6000 miles on it for $12,900. In 2007 I got my wife a 2007 Grand Prix GT (28.5 sticker) with 9500 miles for $16,500. I'm pretty sure they had a few G8s from the same place.

well, there's no shame really in him losing to you. I would guess he's still stock. Probably just doesn't know where he falls at on the food chain yet although he's a little closer to realizing it now. I would imagine he's at home right now web surfing for headers and catbacks. Nothing like a loss to make you mod shop.
When we start shopping I'll give you a heads up. I would imagine it's a ways off still unless something happens. I'd like to get 2 more years out of that Durango but we'll see. The mileage is getting up there on it. She puts a ton of miles on her vehicles because of how far away she works.

i forced my mom to test drive one..then we test drove the v6..then a buick..she had a SEG with the g8 GT..beautiful cars..i loved it..minus the fact that there was not a navigation screen in the one we test drove...the G8 will most likely be my next car

I wanna test drive one but hardly any pontiac dealers around here have any! and I'm not rural, I'm talkin albany...fuccillo, otto, new country....nothin. I think the V6 is the 3.6l DOHC, which in my moms 07 G6 GTP is a pretty spiffy motor esp. w a 6 speed (auto) but I imagine the G8 is a lot heavier. GT is the ls2? or the new ls3? too lazy to look it up right now lol

They have gone low low 13s with tune only. Not bad for a car with that much interior space.

I raced a G8 GXP last Friday during Pontiac Nationals at Norwalk Ohio. he went:

    R/T .157
    60 2.258
    330 6.204
    1/8 9.225
    mph 84.78
    1000 11.774
    1/4 13.92
    mph 105.53

not really impressed at all, but nice reaction time.

its the tune right? theyre about what, 3700 lbs, and 415 HP? i figured the GT would be like 13.7 and the GXP would be like 13 flat...although I was also a believer in the "high 12 sec" ls2 GTO's when they first came out, and every1 said "13.2-13.5"

edit: just went to Pontiac's website, said 415 HP with 6 speed auto, and 3.27 gears. Mentioned "available" 6 speed manual, (its obv the Tremec TR 6060) but didnt have any specs. THEN went to edmunds.com's follow up test; saw the final drive for stick shift GXP's is 3.70, and ALSO found THIS quote: Edmunds' Bottom Line: Never mind the Firebird or the GTO, because the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP is Pontiac's best car ever

People love the g8 gt, even people who dont like domestic cars. Its big hit for all the sport sedan loving people out there. Alot of people from legacygt.com are trading in there legacys and getting g8 gts.

The great thing is dealers are letting them go for 23k right now. You get a 6 speed auto, all the room you need, nice interior, sporty exterior and 370hp for 23k brand new. Thats a damn good deal, they actually handle pretty good too.

    I take offense to that since I own a Firebird (2000 WS-6) and a 2006 GTO!

Someone over on ls1tech just went a 12.59 @109mph with headers, intake, tune, exhaust. On stock 19 inch rims with street tires, pulled a 1.89 60ft. Its a G8 GT not the GXP. Best trap speed was 111mph he said. Dynoed 360whp with those mods through the auto 6 speed. Not bad for a grocery getter with cylinder deactivation still intact.
