Is that the stuff ya gotta use with friction modifier? When I used to post on the GTO forum there was a debate on this shit.

Yes you need to add the Torco type F friction modifier

It smells like rotton eggs every time I walk out into my garage. I have a small leak coming out from the front of my ten bolt and there's always a few drops sitting under my car. Shitty smell never goes away.

Gotcha. I gotta get that stuff. I think when the previous owner replaced the diff he overfilled it cuz I have a leak from the top of the diff. I read on the GTO forum that when the diff is overfilled, it sprays out from the vent and onto the exhaust. FUKKEN STINX!!!

How do you overfill a diff? I mean you fill it up until it runs out the hole.....

Well the Torco ( conventional oil base) does have a thicker than normal film strength.....and this is why folks over at ls1gto "think" it is better cuz it quietens their rear gears.....but the truth of the matter is quiet is not always better.....Torco has crap add packs for friction modifiers/foam prevenitives/seal conditioners...and frankly Shell Rotella 85-140 at WalMart returns better gear wear numbers than that Torco garbage....
But the dipshits at ls1gto.com go by their butt dynos and sing Torco's praises.....let em go right ahead...but I prefer data and a return on my investment in lubrication/heat control/long term protection of a quality diff lube like Royal Purple/RedLine/Amsoil all three returning excellent wear numbers....and Oh shock...all three do not require friction modifiers.....this should be a big indicator guys.....
And yes I have ran and tested Torco against all three mentioned above.....

Interesting,I have never tryed the high dollar shit, thought it was a bunch of hype,Ive always used autoparts brand the kind that came with the modifyer in them and always syn.I dont know shit about all the chemistry studys nor do I want to take the time,Id say if sarge says the shit is good well thats good enough for me.maybe next time I do mine ill go to the Amesoil,so where the best place to get it?I also plan on doing the new built motor in the next few weeks,so might as well try it...

Well I appreciate your trust in me and I do work/read/listen and test all these lubes prior to commenting at all.....I do not care who is hitting who with dipsticks JIMMY...nor do I give a piss about any dyno runs showing HP gains.....I do not take it lightly that people do read my post and I feel a responsibility for sure....
With that said.....often times the higher end stuff is really no better than the lower cost solutions....Royal Purple is a prime example of this in their motor oils.....I would run Yellow Bottle Pennzoil at $2.50 per quart and get better results for my Oil Change Intervals than with $9 a quart Royal Purple garbage.....and have....and have the UOA's to prove my statements......
CompSyn is a great guy and works hard for our members....buy any Amsoil products through him.... http://www.competitionsynthetics.com/
Always reference code#ZO#1606470 when you place an order either by phone or online as CompSyn gets credit for your purchase.....

I would also submit the choice of diff fluid has a direct impact on breaking stub axles.
Go over to DoricandHRJlikethecock.com and tell me what diff fluid folks were running when they broke a stub.
Heat plays a major role in breaking a stub. Higher heat over time will make it brittle and that sum bitch will break of right at the point the splines start....this is heat related as much as torque related....
Just spend a few minutes and go do a little research......come back and tell me what gear oil they were running......
Most will be Royal Purple or Torco......now I'll take RP over Torco any old day....but Amsoil and RedLine run significantly cooler than the above mention two oils....
and say hi to Doric and HRJ for me....dont expect either one to reply as they probably have a dick in their mouths....

So I should use the Rotella 85-140 then? My job uses Rotella T for diesel oil changes and the customers don't complain.

OK. Gonna give my job's parts supplier a call. We use the Rotella so if I don't need the friction mod then I'm good to go.

I'd have a bottle of this just in case with the Rotella....you may not need it but better safe than sorry....it is cheap.....

You wouldn't need it with Amsoil/RedLine or Royal Purple...

OK. We use AMSoil at my job too. I gotta read the bottle of I think it's called "SEVERE GEAR" oil. Never seen that stuff before.
