    Cannot unlock door

Have a 2005 GTO. Before I parked the car for the winter, I locked the doors, pulled the battery out, and closed the hood. Now I went back to put the battery back in the car, the key will not unlock the door. The key turns in the door lock, but it will not unlock. So I cannot get inside the car to release the hood to install the battery. What is wrong with the lock? Anything I can do short of breaking into the car?

Odd -- must be it needs power to unlock? Any way you can get to the battery cables from under the car to attach a pair of jumper cables?

Seized/broken door lock actuator maybe? If the key turns in the cylinder, and you don't see the tab inside the door pop up, then my guess is the lock actuator is broken unless the rod that runs from the pull tab(if there is a rod) has come loose inside the door. May have to call a locksmith as an option to breaking your driver window.

The key won't work in either door?

Each door has it's own, right?

The only key lock on the car is located on the driver's door. Guess I will have to call a locksmith or see if someone at one of the local service stations can come over and get into the car. The battery is located in the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side. No access going through the wheel well or from underneath.

Only one way in sounds like a bad plan to me. I didn't know, or, don't remember that about the GTO.

GTOs only have ONE exterior lock cylinder. Driver's door. Not on passenger door or trunk.

Question for OP: is your car inside a heated garage or is it outside in your driveway?

Hmmm. Do GTO's have a trunk pass through?

No, but it does not matter. Cannot get into the trunk.

There is no key lock on the trunk. Only way to get in trunk is with the "key fob" or the button inside the glove box. It is electrically activated.

I have resigned myself in calling a technician on Monday. Checked the Holden and Vauxhall forums as well. Seems to be a unique problem to me.

Use a slim jim and never take the battery out of a goat, use a battery tender, they are weather proof.

I have had the locks click to the "locked" position on our Trans Am when hooking up the battery. Now I always make sure I have the keys in my pocket or leave the driver door open. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

Wasn't it you that was having problems with your key fob a few years back? Battery can't be replaced in it? Couldn't get in at all?

I think it was Rich, or someone on here who Rich was helping. Not being able to get in the car due to a dead battery is a very dumb design by Pontiac if that's the case.
