PBM 366ci TC78 E85- 2004 Pontiac GTO PBM A4
Brake Clamping force, need more, lots more!
When im sitting their trying to stall up, i continuously push through my brakes.
Rear ones wont hold without spinning and if they are nice and hot, itll push through the fronts.
I have a 3200 stall and start pushing through around 1800rpm.
What can i do improve the clamping force to hold me still. I have, just messing around, pulled the parking brake handle up and held it up while doing this and am then able to stall to around 22-2300 rpm which according to Yank is where it should be going.
So, what can i do to improve my clamping force of the brakes. I dont think using the parking brake is the right way to do this, i only did it as a test.
Im basically stock for brakes with the only improvement being c5 pads in the front.
Thanks,
Kyle

Braking
Hi There, you should probably invest the $200 in a line lock. This will apply the front brakes only and let the rears spin freely. As for why the e-brake helped keep you planted makes me wonder. I always thought the e-brake was a mechanical cable that acted on the rears only.... but I guess I was wrong?
Good luck.

It only acts on the rear. I was saying That it stops the back wheels from turning. Lol

I was trying to brake boost, IE- foot on brake and foot on gas, trying to stall up, i kept pushing through the brakes, the back ones couldnt hold the wheels form spinning, i pulled up the parking brake, TO hold the back wheels from spinning.Last edited by JAX04; 04-20-2011 at 08:57 AM.

Upgrade your calipers to some that have more pistons and find some grippier pads for the front.

Look up ( 04 Gto big brake kits) on ebay, there are a number of nice peices all the way up to 16" rotor, not cheap ( I think some were around $5,000) but very nice kits.... how much do you want to pay to play? Lol. You should come up and drive my goat some time. With the manual brakes and steering it can be s handful if your not used to it

Those kind of things dont bother me, the problem is when im literally standing my 235LB ass on my brake pedal i can still push through the brakes,
Its pathetic that we got such piece of shit brakes on these heavy ass cars,
SO basically, unless i go to a better brake caliper and rotor setup, im fucked? is that what we are saying? or is their a way to LOCK the rear brakes, or simply adjust them so that they can clamp harder??

Not sure what trans you are using, but if you are needing help with your launch and not just doing burnouts, you might put in a call to B&M and inquire about a trans brake. Their units run around 300 bucks I think. This will fix your problem and prevent you from destroying your brake system.

3200 is a ton of stall. With that much rpm your probably going to push through any brake system you put on there. You're probably going to have to Google "trans brake" and see if they make one for your application. If you're running the electronic trans, I would think this would be easy to do. If not, there are a lot of companies making brakes which are really affordable. Hope this helps.

bignikk had a good idea with the line lock. However, those are mostly used to for manual cars to hold them still on the line so you can manipulate your clutch. Even if it would hold at full pressure, you're still going to push through and ruin your brake system.

3200 is alot of stall?? tell the guys rocking 3600 and 4k stalls that.
Transbrake on our rear ends is suicide. not gonna happen.
and their is honestly no reason why i shouldn't be able to stall to around 2200 on the foot brake.
I have a yank converter, and they have told me more then once on a foot brake you should be able to stall up 1000rpm less then the rated stall speed.
im lucky to hit 1800 before i blow the tires off or if they are hot,ill just push right through the fronts.

Well then, I followed your build over the last several months and was patiently waiting for results of your "TurboGoat"... If a Trans brake is not an option, then allow me to introduce you to Mr Willwood, Mr Baer, and Mr anything bigger than 04 Goat brakes. Good Luck Buddy...

You would need atleast 19" wheels or bigger. But these are NICE.
