What kind of car is your friend building? 1/4 mile? Road Racer? Top End runner? What?

Is he doing any other mods to the car? With a street car I'd probably choose the 2nd cam, but I'd also be upgrading intake, exhaust, heads, and such to maximize a cam change.

P.S. Sarge - like the avatar change.

the first thing you should recommend your friend is to swap out that stock converter. I would then look at going larger with the cam. What are your guys tuning resources like over there? With a good tune a 228 is a great driving cam and can be a nice bruiser on the street.

Not to hi-jack the thread but what's a good road racing cam, who makes it, at idle are you in a shaker and how much hp and torque is the estimated gain?

A good road racing cam is one that hits at higher RPMs....like the one I just put in my Silverado. Less overlap and therefore less "thump" at idle.

Any initial recommendations on a grind? I'll do some research to refine...

I've found a young kid in the next town with pole barn where I work on my baby (he has frame lift as well).
He's got an 05 he's rebuilding with several forged parts and supercharger. I'm more about rights and left vs straingh line. Rebuilt the suspension with pedders and dropped her an inch with new struts and shocks.

You really need to call Jeff Smith at Comp Cams. Guy is brilliant. Tell him what you got and he will custom grind a cam.
