    Smile z28 vs turbo civic

It was about 930pm when i get a call from a friend. I was with my girl so i didnt want to race or do anything dumb. He tells me to meet up at a circle K, and i replied cool thinking we were gona end up at a party. So as i wait for his red tahoe he pulls up with our friend in his turbo civic. he tells me he wants to do a freeway run, for some reason he found out i had lost second gear. So we get to the freeway and we post up for a 50 roll. I down shift to third and as soon as i hear the third honk im off. I take off on him hard and as i shift to 4 i jus slowed down. We try three more runs but still keep killing him. Then we pull up to a QT and start talkn. He tells me hes at 12 pounds and i go . i was thinking he was at 5 or 8 but twelve???? So we each go r seperate ways and as i contemplate my girl is freggn mad. So we end up going to my house and show her who the boss.

10-12lbs isn't anything out of the ordinary for a turbo honda.

should have given him a chance and raced him from dig. would have been more fun to switch from 1st to 3rd pull on him

well it depends on the engines

10-12 lbs on a 4 cyl would equall about 80-120 extra hp's (I am not familiar with the HP/boost ratio but I've heard from some co-workers its 7HP for every 10lbs so....)

    On a V6 10-12 will net you about 100-140

a V8 10-12 would be 140-170 extra, but Im not so shure about turbos on cars. but on my diesel I am using 80lbs and it feels good, especially when empty.

A turbo civic w/ a stock crap motor = Feeding the 4 Gerbils a couple more pellets. I've seen some slow cars beat em, they need more like 30lbs of boost, LoL.

80lbs? hmmm, maybe a typo? I don't know of any stockish block that would hold up to 80psi. Hell I'm not sure if a top fuel dragster will hold 80psi.

the previous owner rebuilt the block and forged its internals, its pretty strong, I have a cummings N14 on it. and a decent turbo. when i took it to get de-governed the Tech at cummings said i was running 80lbs, that its pretty risky, but i told him im a local driver and the engine cools down for awhile in between loads.

It doesn't work that way because you have to factor in volumetric effeciency, compressor and turbine effeciency, tuning, air flow, etc etc.

There is no standard like you're thinking there is.

But all things being equal, a boosted V8 will make more power than a boosted 6, and a boosted 6 will make power than a boosted 4.

Pretty general statment there, you could have a boosted 4cyl pushing out more power then a boosted v8 it all just depends on set up. But boost for boost 20lbs on an 8cyl will net you more power then on a 4cyl if you are looking at it that way. 12lbs on a civic is nothing and no way is going to add 100+hp, 40-50hp is more reasonable.
