Smoked a Shelby GT500

yes, thats right. i SMOKED a brand new 500 horse shelby mustang gt500!!! my bf and i were driving to dinner with my dad and his gf. i was in my t/a and my dad was following me. well i passed this mustang and he pulled behind me. my dad pulled next to me at the light and said, you know theres 500 horses behind you. i said yep... must be nice. well my dad takes off and i get caught at another light, the shelby pulls next to me. this car was beautiful, but the guy driving it looked over at me, his buddies looked at me, and he inched forward a bit. so i just sit there, minding my own business. i watch the other light turn yellow, and red. my light goes green and we both stomp on it. of course neither of us got any traction. i hooked halfway through 2nd gear and walked his ass!! my lane merged so i pulled in front of him. it was a perfect day. but i know i just effed that dudes day up, he got beat by a GIRL. in an LS1. i hope his friends never let him live it down.

haha, i think its 50. ford didnt want the wrong hands experiencing the full power right away for obvious numerous reasons.

You do realize that racing is more than just flooring it right?

One of a few things happened here.

A. It may have been a Shelby GT (basically a GT with different grill and conical intake)
Or ...
B. he was the world's worst driver. (especially if you spun through 2nd gear)

My buddy has one they are detuned for the first 500 miles not trying to steal your thunder or anything.For the money he paid for that you could make your T/A spank his ass again.

...they don't have 500 horses. They have about 450. Why would they detune the engine for the first 500 miles? Doesn't make any sense to me. The engine itself is a detuned GT motor. Reguardless, even if they did detune it for the first 500 miles, they still should have enough power. I doubt they would detune it so much. But whatever, nice kill.

They make ~450 at the rear wheels, given them ~500 horsepower at the crank (hence the factory rating of 500 HP).

They are not the same. Among other things, they use a different block and a different blower.

Well i have seen alot of gt500s have trouble getting out the 13s with street tires and 450rwhp you can see why and the fact they weigh 4200lbs, with a good driver and street tires its a mid 12 second car and with 3 bolt ons i ran a 12.8 so it could have easily been driver error. How fast did you go in this race, if you walked him by alot i would say it wasnt a 500hp because they trap alot higher than an ls1.

Anyone here who has tried to launch a 450rwhp+ car on street tires will tell you its not easy, and your 60 foot time is not gonna be good lol even if you dont spin you have to be so light on the gas its not gonna be fast anyway

I agree that there are those that can't run 12's with them in bone stock form. Overall, I'm not impressed with the GT500. IMHO, it is overweight, overpriced, and overhyped. However, in the right hands, it will very easily take a stock or lightly modded F-body (they are capable of 115+ trap speeds...bone stock).

Finally, they weigh 3920 lbs - not 4200. Still way too heavy, in my opinion.

Yeah thats why i asked how fast the race went to, i trapped 110 with some bolt ons and 115mph is alot faster, i rode in one and i thought the power was good i never launched it just from a roll but what got me was the handleing. It seemed way off balance the car seemed sluggish around corners, im sure the weight has alot to do with but ford needs to work on the body roll.

Anything can happen on the street.
The GT500 should have won...but didn't.

And yes...the PCM can control the boost and RPM level for the first 500 miles. The SRT-4 has the same 'feature.'

That said, I certainly hope this thread doesn't turn into a 'bash the GT500' affair. That motor in a lighter car would SCREAM!

I dont think anyone can talk trash or has tried to about the engine, its the rest of the car that needs some work, weight and suspension mainly. I saw a vid of a gt500 with a ugraded supercharger and eveything else stock down to the exhaust make 730rwhp. I hope the new camaro comes with a FI option, now those 2 would be good competition
