    Semi race w/ modded WRX

I am fairly familiar with the WRX (it is the newer body style -not the STI)

Anyways he drove beside me, revved and his blow off valve sounded loud as heck. He zooms up, I drop to third and close in..

We come to a light, but we barely had time to get to a stop, before it turned green.

I just got the car, and I don't trust my skills yet, so I leave traction control on (lol, no poking fun)

I had a horrible reaction time to the green light, probably a full second. He took off, and immediately had about two cars on me, I closed about a car at the end of second, and missed third. LOL

I am a pathetic excuse for a driver. In all fairness I am still learning this car.

He got off the next exit, and gave a thumbs up, and I gave a wave.

If i had to guess, I am guessing he has upgraded Turbo, exhaust, BOV, intake, it sounded pretty mean.

Even with my horrible driving I can't see ever getting beat thru second gear by a stock WRX (non - STI). those are low 14 second cars stock right?

I honestly think If I was driving better it wouldn't have even been close.

So my first taste at a race and I botch the take off, w/ traction control on, and I miss third.

I plan to find some where to practice launching w/o Traction control on, and shifting thru third. I want to be decent at it so I can go the track and not look like a fool, running 14s lol.

Invest in a Pro 5.0 Shifter. You will never miss 3rd again

Sounds like you ned to practive driving your car before racing. Practice launcing, shifting, keeping the car straight under wheelspin, ect.

WRX's are easy kills, even if they get the launch on you, as soon as you hook up it looks like they are going backwards. Literally.

Stop saying isnt worth your gas, you dont know whats done to the car it could be a close race and even if it isnt, if its a WRX he needs to learn not to give a cocky smile when he pulls next to a f-body. Needs to learn his place, teach him how too look straight ahead and never look over at you for fear you might hit it and own him.

I only go for STi's. WRX's w/ work done usually aren't worth it. I heard their trans can't take alot of ponies. The STi's come w/ a diff, beefed up trans., just what I heard tho.

    You heard right.

Over on the WRX forums guys blow up transmissions left and right. They just aren't designed for a performance application. If you drive it like an economy car, it will probable be fine. But once you start modding or if you slam gears a lot, don't expect it to last.

The STI transmission is only marginally better. Good for more power than the WRX's trans, but still not very heavy duty.
