    Sadly now demodded :(

    My 98 gets killed...

I was driving home Friday (5/06) and came upon a modded Subie WRX/Sti. I could see the fart can and the blow off valve didn't sound stock when he shifted. My 98 has 182,xxx miles on it and is stone stock. I got him out of the hole but he got past me after the 1/2 shift but didn't pull much (I think he let off) so I let off.

Came up to the next light and I gave him a thumbs up and told him the mileage on the car and that it's completely stock. He told me it ran great (he said, "Well it still hauls ass") for being that old with that many miles.

So, a death but an honorable one...

I was sooo wishing I was in the 02 then.

    In his sig :P.
Good death OP, modded STI's should prove to be pretty quick, I'm still wanting to race one of those and a mach 1. Question though, if you changed the gears, why only to OEM performance instead of hitting 3.73's?

Occasionally someone has to take one for the team. Better you than us!

Seriously, those are fast cars stock. GMHTP even has a project car labeled the "STi Killer" that has been a feature build.

    You win some...you lose some.

There is always going to be someone out there faster than you

That is so true. Always somebody faster...but sometimes you can sneek one in there on somebody and that is always good for the score card. I think the worst loss I suffered was from a ford festiva. It was a full blown drag car but it was still a festiva.

I originally went from 2.73's to 3.73's but after 50 or so passes it started howling (burnt pinion bearing which took out the pinion also). My buddy gave me the used 3.23's he took out of his car so I got it back on the road (this was last year about this time) just in time to do the LA Invasion for the price of a gear install set. It runs fine (makes no noise) and with the stall it doesn't seem to make any difference so I left them in there.

I should note that that was my 3rd set of 3.73's. 1st set (Motive) howled off the bat. 2nd set (Richmond) was better but broke a ring gear tooth at the track. 3rd set (AAG) worked fine til the pinion bearing took out the pinion.

Moral of the story: No more screwing around with 7.5" 10 bolts...
